lsusports.net and play the video of q. thomas, magee, ect.
these other players may have more stars but these guys can play.
1) i think stars have become very over rated. who was the better back ingram or bryce brown. who was the better d-lineman? fairley or woods?
2) as the years have passed. it appears these rankings/ratings have become more national and watered down. usc was dominating the recruiting trail for years, now it's bama, however, when the teams line up, there doesn't appear to be a large talent gap if any.
think about teams like oregon, v tech, nebraska, wisconsin, and auburn under tubbs. rarely top 10 recruiting yet contending.
Think about Au under tubbs. he rarely recruited top 10 or top 5. yet, for the exception of cam, he recruited two teams that went undefeated in the s.e.c. (zimba, fairley, adams, ect are tubbs)
this year louisiana was suppose to be the best talent since 2001. if rasco commits, miles will have got everyone he wanted save g rob.
i don't care about the ranking, i know we got talent. elite talent and talent we can contend with. talent that will give Au and bama hell.

Damn. A sensible look at stars vs talent vs development. (Forget about Crowton and QB development)

These threads are dumb, even if they are pro LSU.

Richardson came in after that Heisman winner and stole away a lot of carries from him.

Austin was a better asset as a recruit. Fairley had 1/2 of a good season. Austin would be a higher pick than Fairley if he had played ball this year.
You pick 25 3 stars and I'll pick 25 5 stars and we'll see who had more productive players in 3 years.

i think stars have become very over rated.
The % of 5* that go to the NFL is higher than the % of 4*, 3%, ect. Not all talent works out and some 3* end of performing better than expected. Stars are not the end all be all of whether a player ends up being a great player at LSU, but they are not overrated.

yeah, thinking austin is better than fairley is pretty dumb. fairley will more likely than not be the #1 pick. if not, he will be higher than austin.
i'm not saying you don't want a four or five star. i'm saying if you think our class isn't comparable to bama's or Au's because of the "more four or five stars" then your wrong.
just because a web sight ranks a player a three star vs four star doesn't mean he's going to be less of a player.
who was the better cb this year kirkpatrick or mathieu? someone forgot to tell t. mathieu he wasn't as good at the # c.b. in the country for bama.
my point, bama got a better team ranking for kirkpatrick than we did for mathieu. yet, both are very good players and we didn't miss out because our guy wasn't rated as high as their guy.
that ranking didn't show up between the white lines.

well, i don't think collins is less of a player than cyrus. however, Au get's a bigger boost in the rankings for it.
how long did it take freak and landry to get a fifth star when everyone knew they were two of the best if not the best players in the country over a year ago? tells me something about the people ranking these kids.

Hester was a 3 star, now he starts in the NFL.
It's not that stars are overrated, it's just not a perfect system, just like projecting the NFL draft. They don't really know the kids personally so they don't know who has the will, heart, or drive to be the best and who is just a freak athlete who doesn't care about giving his all 100% of the time. That's why there will always be flops in recruiting classes and the NFL draft.
