per Jimmy Smith, NOLA: "Former Louisiana prep star Drake Davis made headlines a few weeks ago when Fork Union head coach Brian Hurlocker stated that he would be giving up football to play soccer. The story was sensationalized a bit as the initial report didn't have Davis' thoughts on the situation.

"I'm just taking a step back right now to focus on other things like my academics," Davis said. "I'm playing soccer and it helps keep me in shape and improves my footwork. I never wanted to give up football."

That news will have many college coaches eager as Davis already has offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida State and Miami, with schools such as LSU closely monitoring his development. Davis has plans to pick up his football career early next year.

"I'll be at the Army All-American combine in January and pick things back up from there," Davis said. "I will be fully focused on football once I get these other issues resolved. After that article came out, I let college coaches know that I still was planning on playing football."

Davis is from Baton Rouge, but transferred to Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and could return to the Baton Rouge area later in his prep career."

This board is sickening now.

You people wonder why we lose recruits? Couldn't possibly be our great fans?!?

I'm not saying internet posts change kids minds, but you can be assured that if it's posted here by one, it's probably thought and acted out by many, many more in real life.

What is this board turning into?

What's out of line here?

He's changed schools 4 times in less than 3 years and quit multiple sports teams he's played for. Is that typically indicative of someone with a good head on their shoulders?

While I don't like that people bash kids around here, it's wide known that Drake has some serious maturing to do (and not just like the rest of the kids his age). I am sure switching schools and focusing on academics has helped but his actions, attitude, and just about everything else in his life is unpredictable. Hoping that the school has given him some structure and helped him stay on the right path.

The top three threads have devolved into discussing gossip and rumors as opposed to actual football info. Maybe I need a break from the board.

I hear his problems are more academic than behavioral, and that he was a well-liked kid at Dunham. I know from my own personal experience of going to boarding school at that age, and transferring back into Dunham later, that sometimes a kid's story hasn't really become clear at 15/16. Sometimes a kid can't succeed where he is and just needs a change of scenery for a bit.

This has largely always been the case.

Sounds like he's trying to get his act together to me. At the very least, it sounds like he has some good people around him if he's willing to put football to the side.

A lot of people don't know but he came in to train over the summer with ex LSU players and I think they were in his ear a lot about being focused and getting qualified
