Fleetwood makes USC commitment

Apparently the ride home from Columbia was enough time for DB Kyle Fleetwood of Stone Mountain, GA to make a decision. After visiting USC earlier Sunday with his family, Fleetwood notified recruiter Lorenzo Ward Sunday night that he is pledging to the Gamecocks. "South Carolina is a great school," he said. "It's a great coaching staff and Columbia's a great city. The shoe fits me just right. and I'm excited about my bright future at USC." Fleetwood was recruited by USC as a strong safety. He had 42 tackles and 3 interceptions last season. "I have good size and speed and I move well," Fleetwood said. "I'm aggressive. I bring energy and play with a lot of emotion. And they play a lot of DBs on the field which means possible early playing time." Fleetwood also had offers from Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Louisville, Indiana, Ole Miss, South Florida, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Stanford, LSU, Boston College and Penn State. He's the sixth commitment for the 2012 class, the third from Georgia and the second from Stone Mountain High School which has had 8 players commit to BCS schools this spring. He's the Gamecocks' first commitment for the secondary.

Any word on Brother Martin DE Julien Obioha (sp?). The Ags offered him recently. Is he expected to get an LSU offer? Who is he in line after for an LSU offer?

He also said it's for QB. And I highly doubt that.

Either the News Star has a misprint or James McFarland intimating LSU has offered him,
8/17/11 News Star article
quote:

McFarland, an all-state lineman as a junior in 2010, is leaning toward joining Hunter on the Horned Frogs instead of offers from Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, LSU and Mississippi State.

Also on the same page in a separate article (page one of the hard copy):
quote:

Chuck Hunter appears to have a bit more pull than Paul Turner, Jordan Allen and Barkevious Mingo "” at least as far as James McFarland is concerned.

McFarland, a West Monroe senior defensive lineman, said he plans to stay committed to TCU, which earned Hunter's pledge last year, despite having talked some to Allen, Mingo and Turner "” all now at LSU "” thus far in his recruiting process.

"I go to Texas all the time, so Chuck gets the edge on that one," McFarland said. "It's just which one I like better, which one I feel more at home at. If you ask my parents, then they really stick out. TCU immediately talked to my parents, and that's why they liked them."

He hopes to focus more on the season now that his mind is made, although he said it's difficult opting for TCU coming from an SEC state.

"The whole locker room is diverse of SECs "” not just for LSU, but for Georgia, for Florida," he said. "I've got people saying, 'Aw man, you should go to Florida,' 'Aw man, you should go to Tennessee,' or 'You should go to Ole Miss.' They can give their own opinion, and I respect their opinion, but it's my choice in the end, so I can't let them influence me."

Scout doesn't show he has an offer from LSU, Florida, Georgia or Tennessee. Scout profile
