Some of you recruitniks, like myself, may have been wondering about the transition years for some successful coaches. Many, myself included, agree its unfair to judge a coach on his first class as a HC. But for those that do, here is a measuring stick that includes some highly thought of recruiters.

Nick Saban: Named HC at LSU November 1999, 2000 recruiting class ranked #21 LINK
Named HC of Alabama Jan 3rd, 2007, 2007 class ranked 13th

Les Miles: Named HC Jan 2nd, 2005. 2005 class ranked 13th

Jim Harbaugh: Named HC December 30th, 2014. 2015 Class Ranking 37th

Urban Meyer: Took over in 2004, 2005 UF class ranked #12
Took over tOSU Nov 28th, 2011. 2012 class ranked #5

Jimbo Fisher: Hired at FSU Jan 7th, 2010. 2010 class ranked 7th

Dabo Swinney: Named HC December 1st, 2008. 2009 class ranked 31

Hire Coach O, he will hold the current class together and lockdown Louisiana!

You going to get flamed hard for this but it needs to be said. You will lose recruits when you go through a coaching change. Its the nature of the beast

You are wasting your time on some of these folks. They have no clue.

Thanks, but its good to know a few appreciate it.

Not that I'm not upset by how things are shaking out. But we all know that nothing is certain until the ink dries in February...and even then, sometimes it continues

It will be amazing if we sign a top 5 class. There's a long way to go, but it's still a possibility despite the OC situation.

That's a great perspective. Thanks for posting.

I don't like to see the uncertainty either. But it goes with the territory when changing coaches.

If LSU gets a good OC in place, I think there's a good chance this class will finish reasonably strong.

... And if LSU puts a good product on the field next year, it will only get stronger.

While true, one of the reasons Coach O was sold to us was that he could and would avoid such a scenario

It's funny how if you're not totally melting, you must've been an O supporter and just can't seem to see the sky is falling.

I wanted Herman too...Herman wanted to USE US as a bargaining chip.

I'm giving Orgeron a chance. It looks like he's about to hire Canada. That's a good start. Win and all things become roses again

I'd be curious to know what these coaches classes looked like prior to being hired.

Coach O was fortunate to have a top 5 class when he was promoted.

Preach
I've been critical of O, but how could you not be impressed if he pulls out a top five class?
Barton Simmons just tweeted about how good Canada would be, and Steve Wilfork says we are still in a good spot for Marvin Wilson.

LOL. He played a part in that prior to being promoted.

Fair point, I'm not sure where to even begin to search for that, and I do have a bit of work to do today

First year classes by Head Coaches

Show me a list of recruiting among interim-head coaches who were already on staff.

Your argument has little practicality here because there has been no full-fledged regime change.
