TLDR; Summary: In the last 10 years, LSU has lost 3 in-state recruits to Alabama that were big losses, and 2 in-state recruits that I would consider decent losses. Every other LA recruit that went to Alabama, LSU either didn’t recruit or replaced with an equal or better recruit. The reality is not as bad as the public perception.

Below is a list of every LA recruit that has gone to Alabama in the last 10 years. When LSU loses an in-state kid, we usually attempt to replace that kid with an out of state player.

2019) Zero LA Recruits so far

2018) Slade Bolden RB – Didn’t recruit.
Eddie Smith CB – Didn’t heavily recruit.

2017) Dylan Moses ILB– We replace Moses with Jacob Phillips from Tennessee. Moses was the 13th ranked player nationally, and Phillips was ranked 61 nationally. Comparable players IMO. Minimal loss here.
Devonta Smith WR – Did not directly replace him with someone, but WR was not a big need in this class. The loss here may be that this opened a pipe line to Amite, but this remains to be seen.
Phidarian Mathis DL – Decent loss here.
Chris Allen OLB/DE – Directly replaced him with K’Lavon Chaisson. We got the better player IMO.
Isaiah Buggs DL - Big loss here. He went to JUCO in Mississippi, but High school in Ruston.

2016) Shyhiem Carter CB – We got Greedy, Fulton, Savion Smith in this class, enough said.
Irv Smith Jr. – Didn’t recruit.

2015) Dylan Charlot WR – Didn’t recruit.

2014) Cam Robinson OT – Easily Biggest Loss here.
Hootie Jones S – Directly replaced him with Jamal Adams, enough said.
Cam Sims WR – Didn’t heavily recruit.
OJ Smith DL – Didn’t heavily recruit.

2013) Tim Williams OLB/DE – Decent Loss here. He became a better player than his recruiting ranking, it happens.

2012) Landon Collins S – Big Loss Here. Replaced him with Corey Thompson and we missed here.
Denzell Duval WR – Didn’t heavily recruit.

2011) Zero

2010) Zero

2009) Eddie Lacy RB – we laid off because of grades and let’s not act like RB was a problem in this era.

Big Losses – Cam Robinson OT, Landon Collins S, and Isaiah Buggs DL

Decent Losses – Phidarian Mathis DL and Tim Williams OLB/DL

One major thing you're overlooking is the depth we'd have w those guys.

Any La player that starts for Bama AND was recruited by LSU hurts us no matter who we got to replace him.

Can you imagine having Hootie and Jamal on the same team?

Good job with this.

The only nits I would pick is that I don't think we ever even offered Eddie Smith, or if we did it was REALLY late.

I'd also say losing Smith was a decent loss. We probably would not have gotten Giles if we had signed Smith and I think Smith would be a pretty huge upgrade over JG.

I'm not sure we get Jamal if Hootie commits.

You cant take everyone. I think it is more likely than not that Jamal doesn't come here if Hootie comes here.

Irv Smith Jr. – Didn’t recruit.

McShay is projecting Smith as a possible 1st rounder now. Granted we don't use the TE so he would've been wasted here but just because we didn't recruit him doesn't mean he isn't a big loss.

Are we not allowed to take both? Cause that would've worked out well.

That's a failure in evaluation and not Alabama beating us out for a recruit.

Again, you cant take everyone. Both Phillips and Chaisson were late adds that we turned up the heat on because we lost Moses and Allen. We likely would not have gone after Phillips and Chaisson as hard had we gotten Moses and Allen. I guess in a perfect world you could take all the best players, but that's not reality.

I agree about Phillips, but I think we still would have recruited Chaisson, but probably not nearly as hard as we did (as in Orgeron showing up at 4 am and driving him to the airport, hard).

Which is still a failure in recruiting. You can semantic it to not a loss but it's a loss.

We didn't sign 25 that year and we took Taylor late as well. We might not have been able to pull all 4 off but it's still a loss. Especially considering we have no pass rush outside of Chaisson and have looked pretty pedestrian on D when either Phillips or White is out.

You’re wrong if you think Dylan Moses, Chris Allen, and Phidarian Mathis are not big losses. That’s why the Gumps are 3-deep and we’re 1-deep at best.

LSU didn't get in on Irv until late. They don't use TE that much, especially back then. He is a dynamic pass catcher. Desean Smith was better than Irv in hs or higher profile at least, and caught like 5 balls his whole career.

Agree to disagree on Smith and Allen. Smith would be just another WR on this team and Chaisson is better than Allen. I would have loved to have both, but I don’t think we get Chaisson if we get Allen. It just sucks Chaisson got hurt.
