I have it on good authority, that we are in good shape with Chucky Hunter.

Any chance that we might see a commit coming our way soon?

Only if he gets an offer---which he is praying for.

Why would we not offer?

Short on numbers and we are waiting on higher rated players.
Not saying that Chucky doesn't deserve an offer, but he isn't 1a. More like 1b.

Rasco is def 1 and 1b imo. Chucky is the 2nd or 3rd best DT in the state.

Chucky has to make the rounds this summer. I look for him to shoot up the rankings once he does this. At this point he's the 4th or 5th best DT in the state behind Freak, QT, MJ, and possibly the kid from Rayville. He has to get his name out there. If he goes to a lot of camps this summer I could see him ending up 2nd or 3rd highest DT in the state.

The way I see it is, whether we get Rasco to commit or not, we are taking two DEs this year no matter what (we have one already with Quentin Thomas and 11 other offers to out of state DEs out there less Rasco). Thomas has been recruited as a DE, not DT, according to Thomas who parroted what LSU's DL coach (Haley) told him (several press releases on the net about this). Thus, how many DEs we take has no bearing on an offer to Hunter.
LSU wants Mickey Johnson to commit first (he has an offer and Hunter does not), then the coaches will see if LSU has room for another DT (Hunter).

See my above comments...How many DEs LSU takes has no bearing on the number of DTs we take in 2011...again QT is being recruited as a DE.
I just want the record to be kept straight because considering QT as a DT does not allow us to correctly assess the DT recruiting.

I've been told that Hunter is not a holdback. I will call a friend of mine on the staff to confirm this. If he's not, how much does this hurt him? He is one of the strongest players to ever come through WM and that's saying a lot. I know Mickey Johnson will turn 19 in September. I look for Hunter to squat more next year than Mickey did at the same point. I don't think he can catch MJ's bench though.

Definitely great potential in Hunter and I hope LSU has room for him! But, there is the question of total spots in this 2011 class. At this point, he looks to be a casualty of this possibility.
What do you mean by holdback?

by holdback, he is referring to the practice of holding players back (now has to happen in the 5th grade) which allows a player to maximize potential growth in high school... this can often skew how good a players potential really looks when they are often a year or more older than their peers. One problem Hunter may have is that they are so good across the board on defense that the individual parts all look like D1 studs (well maybe not all, but you get the point) and they are extremely well coached, so going to a camp can be huge for Hunter. I will get to see him May 13th when I film their scrimmage against Ruston. This should give me and others a good idea on Hunter since the one strong point on Ruston will definitely be their OL, as the unit as a whole is preety big athletic and strong and may be the best OL he sees. There is an OL at Ruston thats a jr(next season) that has the potential to be a major D1 and LSU recruit in Jacob Brunson 6'4 280 (last fall as a So.) and he's even bigger right now and just looks like a beast

right now, what's your best guess on the total number of available scholly's for the '11 class?

Idc he's told by the coaches that he'll stay at DE doesn't make it true..

Chucky Hunter is a badass name for a DT. Maybe even a better name for an LB.

He was ata combine at TCU this past weekend and he did make an impression:
quote:
Hunter a bull at defensive tackle
Defensive tackle Chuck Hunter (Monroe, La./West Monroe) may not be the most physically imposing tackle/nose guard prospect, but he certainly makes up for it with a nonstop motor and physical attitude. He features a leverage-winning bull rush that proved to be tough to handle for offensive line prospects. The 6-1, 290-pounder has offers from Mississippi, TCU, Mississippi State, Baylor, Memphis and Louisiana Tech.

I think that's what he had been criticized for, am I wrong?

Here we go again is Chucky 6-1 or 5-11. Is it impossible to get the real height of a recruit?

I don't really know.
I do know guys on here enjoy the debate on whether LSU should offer/have offered/will offer!

Ive stood beside him recently and we were eye level. Im a legit 6 feet tall.
As for his weight he weighed in latest at WM at 310. During the season he had cut down to 285 but has gained it all back.
