Pitcher Maribeth Gorsuch, who led Lewisville to the Class 5A softball state title as a freshman last season, said Thursday that she has orally committed to LSU.
Gorsuch said she chose LSU over Florida State and Texas Tech.
Gorsuch was named SportsDay’s All-Area Player of the Year after going 22-4 with a 1.24 ERA and hitting .392 with 32 RBIs. She was 6-0 with a 0.53 ERA in the playoffs, and in the state championship game she ended Kingwood’s 23-game winning streak by leading Lewisville to a 3-2 win.
LSU finished 42-16 last season, winning at least 40 games for the 15th time in 17 seasons. LSU was the No. 9 national seed in the NCAA tournament but was eliminated by No. 21 Louisiana-Lafayette in the Baton Rouge Regional. LSU reached the Women’s College World Series in 2012.
