With our coaching/recruiting staff of Les Miles, Ed Orgeron, Dameyune Craig, Bradly Dale Peveto, Jeff Grimes, Jabber Juluke, and Corey Raymond, there isn't any team in NCAA football that can match our staff in recruiting from top to bottom.

Throw in the fact that Austin Thomas has returned to the fold, and I think you can see that its just a matter of time before we become the most dominant team in the SEC. On paper we should win the SEC, and hopefully bring another NCAA championship home as well. I realize the games aren't played on paper, but our team ought to be able to match up with anybody in college football right now.

I mean, I'll go ahead and say it, Alabama. Losing Bo hurts, but they are still up there.

However, I do agree that LSU has arguably the number 1 or 2 recruiting staff (not counting off field personnel) in the country.

Ohio State and Clemson also have great staffs.

I can't imagine that we're not somewhere near the top; however, I don't really follow other staffs as closely to say definitively.

yes, that is why I limited the comparison to direct staff only.

Outside of that, Alabama is the clear number one overall staff.

It's huge that there is no longer any dead weight (recruiting wise). The likes of Stud, Brick, Chavis, and Ball are gone, thank goodness.

Not to pick on Brick, but Orgeron would've been a great hire if he couldn't recruit at all. Brick left a line that produced 19 sacks with two NFL bound, LSU veterans, and Orgeron produced 34 sacks while "rebuilding" the same line.

Those guys were all (arguably) dead weight in more than just recruiting.
Minus Steele, this staff has done a great job at recognizing and fixing problem areas, quickly.

Whether we're the "best" or not has to be subjective, but we're certainly in the upper echelon and equipped to challenge anyone whether it be on the recruiting trail, or on the field.

This is true. No one is going to outspend the REC for recruits, except Ole Miss, but as far as Personnel, LSU is up there...

I read somewhere that Texas A&M tried reeling him in again and Texas doubled his pay (I possibly read it wrong). Pay increase from $235,000 to $495,000 lololol. I guess they are ok with being a subpar team.

I totally agree! But the most important thing not to be forgotten, is Player Development! Under Les Miles, more players have went to the league (NFL). So with out questions, when you talk about recruiting and player development, LSU is number #1. Some people will argue that because it has not transferred into Championships!

If LSU football had more money to work with we could come close to Bama recruiting. Just dont have the amount of people (hiring recruits family, ex coaches, mentors, etc..) to compete for the #1 spot. Recruits love to get 15-20 pieces of mail a day from a school. We just don't have enough warm bodies to stuff envelopes.

Hate to be a killjoy, but Ohio State has two 5-star recruits and ten 4-star recruits committed for 2017 already. At this point, I think those stats trump any claims to the best recruiting staff.

As long as they aren't poaching on our land; I could give a frick what they have right now.

It's all about what happens on NSD.

We just finished ahead of Osu in recruiting.

They have a 5 star from their own home state ranked in the top 5 overall. We are in contention for 2 guys from our area who are ranked ahead of him. Hopefully our staff can get both..

Why? Have some security issues regarding Bama and want to concede everything to them? The only thing I will concede is that next year, 2017 they will be locked in favs to win it all as they will have the perfect balance between experience and talent on field. After that, certainly strong but kind of early to predict if they will be as strong as they will look next year. They are vulnerable as far as lack of experience in certain key areas in 2016.

Granted the OP is making a very optimistic assumption that does not take into account competition. Nonetheless, we are in position to be step by step right at Bama's level or just a half step behind in overall talent. It can end up being a two team race and everybody else in SEC W or SEC for that matter. I would suggest being realistic, yet cautiously optimistic. And having a little bit more faith in the program you seem to like to support.

My entire point in making that comment is to state that man for man our recruiting staff can compete with any team in the nation.

That being said, if we can continue to bring in top five recruiting classes year after year, it is very realistic to state that we will be able to compete with Bama, and we should beat them a fair number of times.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Bama is this invincible god of a football team, but that simply isn't a fact that a number of their best players turn out to be total busts in the NFL doesn't back that up one bit. They can be beaten, by decent teams with the right offensive and defensive strategy.

Personally, I think Dave Aranda could turn out to be the best defensive coordinator we have ever had.
If some of his defensive philosophies are adopted from those of Wade Phillips, then he definitely knows what he is doing, as Phillips has been one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL for many years. I could see his defensive strategy getting the better of Bama this year, but we will just have to wait and see for confirmation on that.

People need to stop putting that jerk Saban up on some coaching pedestal like he is the Bill Walsh of college football. That guy is nowhere near the strategical mastermind that Walsh was, and never will be. Saban's complete incompetence while head coach for the Miami Dolphins proved that irrefutably.
