What is Coach Os pitch to land 3 5* DTs that all play the same positions? Ik Gary can play a DE in a 3-4 but what about Alexander and Lawernce

I didn't even think of that. Could Gary be a 4-3 De? At the opening I say him line up at a DE

Gary can line up all over the line, a lot like Shavar Manuel. Which is why Shea Dixon (and I really agree with him) said he thinks we will get one or the other but not both. Then Alexander is your DT in a 4-3 and end in a 3-4. Lawrence would be the same

Blacklock would be the nose

It's possible we get both Gary and Manuel, but I doubt it. An Alexander, Logan, Blacklock, Roddy, Anthony, Gary/Manuel, Lawrence/Davis dline class would be crazy. Obviously they don't turn away any of those guys I paired with each other but that's how I see it. If we get Gary, Manuel goes to UF, if Gary goes to Auburn we get Manuel, and if Bama gets Lawrence, Orgeron gets Davis to BR

I seem to recall scouts saying that he has some potential as a 3-technique defensive end.

If there is any truth to Kevin Steele implementing some five-man fronts via a 5-2 or 5-3 personnel, then that certainly allows each of them to be on the field simultaneously.

Depth Chart

Q Thomas is a SR
Mickey Johnson is a SR
Lacoutoure is a JR - probably will return for sr year
Godchaux - SO - could leave after JR year
Herron and Gilmore - SO reserves still looking to make impact

That's it! With Trey L, Bain and Valentine leaving program.

All 3 of those guys could be on the field at the same time in a 3-4, hell, could argue Gary is good enough to be at DE in 4-3 too and all 3 could play in a 4-3.

But you sell the fact we recruited ZERO DTs and only 2 DE last year and lost some guys to attrition this offseason. We are thin on the DL and can offer immediate playing time. We stand to lose 2 possibly 3 DTs after this season between Thomas, Johnson and then LaCouture.

Shea did later say that it's more likely we get Gary OR Manuel, but he didn't kill the possibility. The only thing Florida has going for them with Manuel is distance from home. If Manuel plays end, it's wide open next year. If he plays tackle, Godchaux and Lacouture may be there only one more year if they keep playing well.

Gary can play any spot on a 4-3 front line, he's just that versatile

Yeah, to me Gary and Manuel are just about the same type of player right now. 6'3 300~ and can play any spot on the line. I just don't see two top 10 national players that will do the same types of things at LSU coming to the same school. If they do I think it's more likely Gary joins on after knowing Manuel is here. If we have Gary in the bag I think UF convinces Manuel to stay home and be their guy

Even though O is a badarse he can't get ALL the top guys haha

However we are wide open on the dline and offer one of, if not the best dline coaches in America. That paired with selling having the most talent stockpiled at DB of anyone, making it easier on the dline to get sacks, we will sign a monster class. Alexander, Blacklock, Logan, Roddy, Anthony, and two of Davis, Lawrence, Manuel, and Gary is one of the best dline hauls in recent history. Hell, even if we only signed the first 5 I mentioned it would still be sick

Jadeveon could have used another Jadeveon playing alongside him his junior year; he looked really tired and beat up (prob the gastroenteritis) and it seemed he knew he needed to preserve his health. If we got two of those guys, they'd play from day one. JMO.

I've always heard Gary has been recruited as a DE not a DT, Alexander & Lawrence are DT's all day

I think getting both of them would be a major advantage for both. Say they both play DE, they get on either side... Can't have a RB block them both if they break thru. The D line could be filthy with the crop of potential 5 star guys coming in.
