That entire spreadsheet shows how unpredictable recruiting is.

I was on the fence regarding Alem. I thought his play as a Sr was a bit of a let down, and he was a notch below the guys listed as Major contributors in that class. (Black, Beckwith, Hitt, Lafell) He also only started one year. I don't think anyone on the DL from last year was a major contributor truthfully.

You can certainly can make a decent argument.

Nice work. This is the kind of thing that I would like to do, if I weren't so lazy.

I really only take issue with Jacob Cutrera and Trindon Holliday. I argue both are Major Contributers. Cutrera had starting level playing time for two years (Beckwith was injured quite a bit). Further, Holliday was the primary KR for 90% of the time he was there - he had KRs for scores that were key plays when he was a freshman. Full-time KR or PR for multiple seasons should drift him into "Major", even without his situational plays, which also resulted in some scores.

I probably should have explained my subjective criteria for what a "Major Contributor" is. And it is just that. They needed to be:
Multi-year contributors/starters
Leaders
All Conference Level (although I didn't research to see who was or wasn't)
Big Play Makers

I don't think Cutrera qualifies. I liked Holliday quite a bit, and there is no doubt that he made the occasional big play. Might need a new category for him!

It is the kind of debate I hoped to have.

Don't you have to at least say that Perriloux contributed some? Without him there is no SEC championship in 07 and thus no National Championship. He also started another game.

Not to be a dick, but I think he is the biggest 'contributor' to the past two years of mediocrity. For the few moments when he wasn't suspended and got on the field, he performed well. I think he belongs in the attrition category personally.

I completely agree that he was the major reason for the offensive struggles the last two years as we have had to rely on young QBs. However, he was definately a contributor in 07. He is still in the attrition category, but he did contribute.

40% of the 2006 and 2007 recruiting classes left the team for various reasons.

48 recruits 20 left team.

This is why we were not as productive the last two seasons.

Actually, very similar. You never know whats going to happen with these kids once they get on campus. 2007 UT had the #3 class according to rivals. Less than half of that class is still on campus.

This is some outstanding work!

Your efforts are MUCH appreciated. This should be required reading (with an interpreter if necessary ) for all the "gloom and doom" j*ckasses. Folks on the Rant always bitching about "trends" based on opinion... and never with the right facts back it up what they're saying.

Great Work Pasty

I would argue that R. Randle was a contributor as a TF last year.....great, great job with this however.

I added 2004 since there were some guys from this year's team that came from that class. I also wanted to compare the guys that left, etc. WOW. That was eye opening. We lost some guys, but that was a giant, bad arse class.

We need to hold on to the 08-10 class and we will be back!
