Your agent is not the place to file a claim. Google your insurance carrier and they will have a number to call in claims. Be aware that you will more than likely have a hurricane deductible. Make sure it is in your best interest to file a claim...

We file them for our customers...

Just an extra step so they don't have to worry..So he's right in calling his agent, if they are worth a damn - they will do it for him.

CE, just keep trying. Try email as well. What's your deductible and what do you have wrong?

The people taking claims on the claims lines will ask questons about damage. Most times when the agent's office calls in a claim they don't have all the answers so that information is not entered into the claim info. The result is missing info going out to the field adjuster which makes it harder prioratize damage quickly after a big event...

Matter of opinion I guess..Never been a problem for any of our customers. We do it all the time.

But everyone runs their office differently.. no biggie.

Definately call your carrier direct if you know your deductible. Going through the agency just creates more delay and you dont get the detailed instructions the carrier is going to give and you dont get to relay the damage first hand.

FWIW, wick is on it 100%, carrier much prefers the claim go directly to them. Helps in a big way with claim triage and assignements

Mine sent emails & Facebook messages out to all customers saying their office phone lines & internet are down. Gave us cell # and email address to try. Check and see if the agent has a website or FB page with alternate contact info.

It's still 24-48 hour turn around no matter who calls..

no argument here, but if you get the correct info from the customer and the agent call it in, it's still taking the same amount of time to process.

Hurricane deductable is 3,280. Roof took alot of damage and water seeped into ceiling of one of the bed rooms (about a 4'x 4' water stain)

Many people in the agent's offices don't ask the right questions. Things like asking the steepness of the roof, 1 or 2 story etc, adjuster shows up to the house and can't get on the roof without additional help but no one knew that so another inspection has to be set. Another examplet, tree hit the house. How big, did it cut through the rafters, cut into the walls, soze etc. I have seen claims come in with NO info. I show up to the house 3 weeks later because it was low on priority and the tree took out the entire master extension of the home. Insured didn't call to ask about status because he knew we were busy.

No everyone is like this but more than enough are. It is better for everyone if the insured calls the claims line to file a claims...
