Have an unknown aged Whirlpool side by side with in door ice and water. Makes ice just fine but I have noticed frozen water on the area underneath the u shaped trough that carries the water from the back of the freezer to the ice tray. I have checked the water pressure at my place and it's 60 PSI. I waited and watched the water valve cycle the water comes down the trough but at high speed / pressure and overflows the side of the trough and therefore gets on the ledge behind the ice maker and actually onto some of the food in this freezer. The filter is new. Do I need to somehow cut down the water supply going into the freezer to stop this from happening? I have lived here just about 2 years the fridge freezer was here when I moved in and it did not do this before. About every two or three weeks or so I have to go chop out the glacier that's forming in the back.

That would be my first option. My plumbing is copper and I used one of those self-tapping connections to tap into the water line and there is a twist on/off valve to let the water run to the fridge. I'd choke that down a bit to see if that helps-------IF you have that same type supply line assembly.

I had a similar issue where the trough had ice in it and it eventually stopped making ice. I assumed the water supply valve had a slight leak that allowed water to drip and slowly freeze and build up. I have hard water at my house and have had to replace washers on faucets due to calcium deposits. I replaced the valve assembly and that fixed it. I was also having drips at the cold water tap and that fixed it also. Valve assembly replacement is pretty easy

It’s not hard to replace those ice makers.

You may have a cracked fitting that has nothing to do with the water pressure.

The ice maker units can be found on Amazon for maybe under $100.
