Just purchased a 42” Husqvarna riding mower last week after my old snapper died and in the process of weed eating the ditches for the 1st time this year the weed eater crapped out (engine was running and head stopped spinning). It was a Troybilt straight shaft from Lowe’s (don’t know the engine size) that lasted 4-5 years. Wondering if you guys have a preference that you would recommend. Was thinking of spending in the $150 range.

Stihl. My last one made it through 15 summers. A little more costly but starts on the first pull each time and works great.

Pony up now for a good one and it will last you an extremely long time.

My suggestion - Echo or Stihl. Get the entry-level commercial-grade one. It'll last an eternity. And if you get the Stihl get a speed-feed head.

My brother used to cut yards on the side when he was in high school and in college. He still cuts his yard with his Honda push mower and Stihl weed eater that he got nearly 15 years ago. Both run great and show no signs of dying.

Take care of it and never put 10% ethanol gas in it.

Don't go cheap on gas trimmers. Spend the $ on a good brand

I disagree on having to spend a bunch of money. If you take care of your tools they will last a long time.

A buddy and I cut grass in high school around a few neighborhoods. We bought 2 Husqvarna detachable weed eaters when we started from Lowes (~$200 each). We got an edge attachment and also use the week eaters for edging. We probably did 15-20 yards at a time through high school and 2 years of college, and both of us are still using these weed eaters to this day. That was 13 years ago when we started cutting grass.

I bought an Echo back in 2004 and just bought it's replacement last year. The old one still runs fine. Just needed a new trimmer head.

Not only does it screw up the carb but I had to get new fuel lines and grommet. Pain in the arse the install.
But my Echo is going on 11 years..It was never easy to start.

Shindaiwa and Echo are both Yamabiko Co. products, save the cash and get an Echo.

I too am very pleased with the Echo PAS.

Three years in and have not had one issue with starting. The brush cutter attachment worked its arse off for me this year at the deer lease. It cut through 1" - 1 1/4" young trees like butter.

I was having trouble finding the right one. I bought one, supposedly for that model, and it didn't fit. I didn't feel like shipping it back and ordering another one so I bought a new Echo. Just sold the old one without a head for $50 a few weeks ago.
