I'm changing out toilet water flow valves on my toilets it seems once a year. Is this normal? I just would have thought I would get 3-5 years out of it. Also changing rings and stopper more often than I would think.

You don't happen to hang one of those chlorine tablets in the tank to keep the bowl clean?

Those things are brutal to the innards of your toilet tank.

Fluid Master units should last for a long time.

Fill valves and flappers.

Same here. Seems the toilet water valves only last a couple of years max, maybe three. Korky seems to be the worst.

Fluidmaster repair kits usually last 3-5 years. The ones from Lowes are all plastic. You can get the copper ones from a plumbing supply place. Usually the diaphragm on top of the valve goes bad. Don’t use the tablets or cleaners inside the tank. You will only get a year or so out of the valve and the flush valve seal.

Happened to me.. But didn't find out until I got a really high water bill. I had to get my ear real close to the valve to hear a slight hiss.. Popped off the valve cover and the gasket was all slimy.. cleaned it up and it worked fine after that.. My reoccurring problem has been the wax ring failing. This will the 3rd one in 14 years that I have had to replace. The flange probably needs to be replaced. I just purchased a new up to date/new design wax ring.. I'll put it on in a couple of weeks...

I've never had issues with scum lines in toilets until I moved to the Houston area. Don't know what it is here, but can't go a few days without having to scrub the toilet. It's worth changing the flapper every 6 months with a tablet in there vs. cleaning daily. But I do wish there was an alternative option (better flapper or a solution to the scum line problem)
