Is it too late to put down a couple pallets of Zoysia sod? I sodded last year with centipede and I have two spots in the yard that don’t seem to be getting enough sun and the area has been over taken by various undesirable weeds (buttonweed, dollarweed, nutsedge). Also, if I take it down to the dirt, can I treat the area with weed free zone and sedge hammer before putting down the sod without killing it?

You can plant sod year round. Winter kind of sucks because it is dormant. Just make sure you have enough water. However much water you think you need the first 48 hours, double it.

Treating with the two chemicals should be ok, but may be overkill. I have used both, but not before laying sod. If you are worried about killing anything just spray roundup 36 or so hours before laying the sod and you will be fine.

Do not fertilize (weed and feed) the grass for several months after. Until well established.

Also let the grass grow as long as you can stand then wait another few days. Then take off just a little. Then another few days feel free to bring the grass down to the normal level when cutting.

This is pretty much the answer. Roundup is the way to go if you’re sodding.
