After a few years, the grass the original builder laid down just isn’t cutting it. The backyard needs to be leveled with some sand and I was thinking of switching from Centipede to Zoysia. After putting down sand in the low spots, can I just lay zoysia sod over the centipede?

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope. Don't do it. It will be spongy, you'll have watering issues, fungus issues, etc

You can spray it with glyphosate and then wait a week or two (until it is dead) and then rake it or till it.

What about plugging it in the bare spots? Or is it all bad? I’m not sure, but I would think the zoysia will overtake the centipede in time

I would try to find out what the issues are with original sod. If you want to replace with zoysia don’t skimp. It’s too expensive not to do it right!
