I have 3-tab on roof currently. Company doing replacement says they only use architectural shingles. Great, that's what I want.

Shingles get delivered today and there's IKO Cambridge and IKO Marathon Plus AR. So I look them up wondering why there's two different series and the Cambridge are architectural and the Marathon are 3-tab.

Why both? Are they trying to screw me? I just have a simple hipped roof.

3 tab are used as a starter shingle under the first row.

Thanks. I don’t know much about roofing so I wanted to make sure.

Architectural shingles have a texture to them rather than a flat look like 3 tab and so look better . They also usually have a longer warranty.

Don't get IKO. They are horrible and every roofer I know hates them. The only reason to get them is to save a little money.

Shingles are in short supply in Lafayette, but I will wait to get Atlas, Owens Cornings etc.

I saw that as well when I was looking for the series differences. Not sure how to handle it since the materials where in the roofing companies scope. Now I’m more worried though with low temperatures this week but they say it’ll be afternoon before they apply new ones.

Article leads on that their issues have been fixed.

Fire them and rip up the contract. I absolutely would not put IKO on. I am a licensed contractor for 17 years now. I am not coming from a place with no experience.

They’re gonna be here at 8am tomorrow. It’s the only brand they use. They’re a local reputable
company.

I’ve been trying to get this replaced since May.

Since you are here, why won’t roof manufacturers warranty roofs with spray foam? The reasoning I have read seems shakey.

You could tell the roofer that you're not comfortable with that brand and ask for something else.

Here's another article that alludes to the problems being resolved.

Im in the materials side of the business. You would be better off with a tarp on your roof.

To clarify, the 3 tabs are turned upside down and used as starters along with the tabs cut off and used for hip and ridge cap.

Shingles are tough to get right now across the entire state.

Ima go ahead with these. Got some assurances from him if anything ever goes wrong. He’s been in business in this area for a long time so I’m not worried about him leaving town.

Just ready to get this done as I had leaking before he two big storms even hit. Had these on order for months. I appreciate all the info and if I ever have a problem with these I’ll raise hell to him.

Tell him that brand is unacceptable and you're willing to wait.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Read some more online and it seems they’ve corrected the issues they had in the past with sealants etc.
