Avoyelles’s Parish Rural.
Ground on top of septic caved in yesterday. About 2’ deep on top with black water on top.
What am I looking at in damage wise? 5-7k?

sounds like your metal tank has given up. Unless you get DIY creative then 5-7k seems likely.

that means there is no steel left in your steel septic tank.

you need the tank dug out and replaced or alternative sewerage system connected to your house. replacement cost doubles since they have to pump it out, dig it up, and then they can reinstall a new tank.

just be glad you avoided the hazard, i know a guy whose riding lawn mower went into one like quicksand. wheel sank and got stuck, then it kept on sinking.

it was funny because the small riding mower went completely underwater, so he just backfilled over it and paid to connect to the city sewerage system rather than replace it.

Should be handled as a repair. No permits required. Had mine done in July for $2200 OTD. Same thing, lid failure on metal tank.

Possible replace lid. My tank was too far gone for that.

Pump out old tank and crush.
Install new 1000 gallon concrete tank.

ETA: My installer constructed his own tanks.

i have no idea if thats a good price or not, but that sounds like a good deal

just in costs of time and labor plus materials that sounds like a really cheap price

does that include a new field bed (overflow drain) and removing everything and leveling the dirt after?

i mean, it would be a no brainer for me to spend under $2500 and its fixed

i would image the guy is making $1000 profit and the $1,300 is to cover his costs for material and labor and expenses

I am experiencing the same situation with our house, that was built in 2009.

A few weeks ago, our yard had standing water, so we requested service to address the issue. Upon inspection, they found that our pump tank had collapsed and our lift station also needed to be replaced ($2500).

While they were working on that, I requested them to go ahead and pump our septic tank ($300). Once they began that, they found out that the top of our septic tank had begun to corrode and beginning to cave in. Additionally, around 10-15% of it was located beneath the pool deck we built a couple of years back so instead of replacing the tank, they would fill it in and move a new one further out in the yard ($5200).

I called my insurance agent to see if my homeowners policy would cover any of this... He basically told me that he was advising me one way or another, however, insurance won't cover anything that is considered a repair, an upgrade, or to move the tank and that if I filed a claim my premiums would go up 25% over the next 3-5 years, even if my claim is denied.

So it looks this will cost me around 8 grand. To add further aggravation to this, they got my system in running condition by replacing the pump tank, but they are fully booked and cannot schedule the septic tank replacement until mid-June. Therefore, my yard will be torn up all spring and will also be torn up again to start the summer. Overall, this has been a pretty shitty situation (pun intended).
