Yes. Just don’t overdo it.

Yes, roundup works primarily by being absorbed by the leaves into the plant you are trying to eliminate. It won't hurt a tree being sprayed at the base.

Yes, I have been spraying it around the trunks of pecan, oak, and crepe myrtle trees as well as under azaleas for many years without problems.

Correct. Roundup is a weed killer. Broadleaf killer such as 2-4D or Crossbow will have more effect on a mature tree. Thats why i only use roundup around my trees and mix roundup and 2-4D to spray fence lines and ditches.

If you want to kill a mature tree you can mix crossbow and a little diesel and “paint” it all around the trunk of the tree.

It’s according to what tree species you are spraying around. Roundup will damage trees, especially young trees with thin bark, such as crape myrtle, beech, etc. If they have any green in the bark, they are susceptible.

The new formula roundup is not glyphosate anymore. Check the ingredients and also it’s likely the label will tell you if you can use it close to trees roots or not. If it doesn’t, they probably have an 800# customer service.

Google and YouTube are your friend.

That aside. Yes, you can apply RU around mature tree without worry.

Anyone else using 30% cleaning vinegar instead of Roundup?

It's harmless to pets and humans, keeps forever, and has been very effective. I use it to kill weeds in the flower beds and nasty climbing vines on our oak trees.

Any overspray will kill algae and mold on your walkways.

Interesting. Where does one get "cleaning vinegar"? Also considering how effective vinegar is used in the cleaning. It is becoming a WD40 resource of sorts.

I've been using that pricey $21-per-bottle stuff sold at Home Depot and Lowe's but last weekend I bought some dirt-cheap $5 a gallon stuff at Walmart to see if it works.

Anybody tried this?
