Want to spruce up an old shed.
Plywood base, thought about maybe prep then use peel and stick, but what about paint?
Any experience or advise?

If the plywood is in good condition a cheap way to make it look really good is decorative Shou Sugi Ban. I say decorative because most actual Shou Sugi Ban cars the wood fully black. I wish I had pictures but we did it on a friend's studio floors and with poly on it it looks fantastic. There are a ton of resources about how to do it decoratively, it became popular 5-6 years ago.
You can also add stain
This is actually plywood flooring
