Need to put some down, should I get regular mulch or the rubber stuff. Probably will buy from Lowes and use 10% military discount. Thoughts?

For years I’ve always put down Scott’s earthgro when it was on sale at Home Depot. Used to be 5 bags for $10 on sale. This year I went with pine straw. I like the look and a little goes a long way. It doesn’t pack densely but is built up enough to keep sunlight off the soil and I’ve noticed less weeds this year.

I’ll just say mulch of any type is better than no mulch and I’m also a big fan of pine straw for function and aesthetics, and you have to add it yearly, but it continuously adds organic matter to the landscape beds enriching the soil, which is a good thing.

Crawdad is right. It’s cheap enough too to add every year

I swear there is a black hole where I put mulch around a few rose bushes. It seems like no matter how much I add, it doesn't last.

I'd hate the rubber mulch with a passion. Feels like I'm just littering

Scott at home depot right now is 3 for $10. Had a few pallets delivered yesterday for $75.
In the spring theyre $2 a piece
Straw doesnt look as good imo

I prefer mulch, but straw can look good if you fluff it when you spread it out.

Find a grove of pine trees and rake them up. I have a spot I go to around every thanksgiving and get 10 trash bags full.

Anyone have issues with their mulch washing away in heavy storms. been experiencing this and actually wondering if the rubber shite floats or not to prevent this.... shite expensive too ( rubber) may just go back to pine straw myself.

the rubber stuff
Can anyone explain how putting ground up rubber in/on the ground is a good thing to me? Seems like it should be nearly criminal.
