Ive had a few different ones. I currently use an XL BGE....that being said if I was spending my money today it would be an XL Kamado Joe.

just curious what can you not get with the KJ vs the BGE?

As of today, it's probably evened out. But when I bought my egg several years ago, the kamado joe was fairly new. All things being equal today, I'd give the Kamado Joe a serious look if I were in the market today. With that said, it's convenient for me to walk in goodwood hardware and buy anything I could need for my BGE.

I'd think you can argue its the exact opposite today if you're looking for features. The divide and conquer system, segmented fire box, oven gasket, top vent design, and the new slow roller

Have BGE and it's been great. No complaints.

Friend has his Fire box bust after many seasons of use, took a photo and they shipped me a replacement with no hassle.

With that being said, they are high as fricking groceries and I would shop for a better device/cheaper price point if it's out there.

I have a BGE, if buying again I would get the oval primo or the vision grill that has the propane insert.

If you already have a smoker and are looking for a grill, its really hard to beat a Weber or PK Grill.

Id have a PK with the sear grates if more into grilling. Only reason I have an Egg is because someone gave it to me.

I’m surprised by all of the positive Vision reviews and the new char/gas option is interesting. The Primo, BGE and KJ all seem to be in the same league as far as quality and price goes. The Kong seems to be a compromise between the two but there’s probably 4-5 makers that use the same Chinese shell. To help me narrow it down, what size do i need to efficiently smoke a brisket occasionally?

Depends on how big the brisket is. You'll want the XL or a primo for larger cuts. There are tricks like putting a large chunk of smoke wood under the brisket to make it fit on the large though. Within a few hours, the brisket will shrink enough to fit laying normally on the grate. I usually split the brisket and freeze one half. Most of it would go bad before my family could eat a whole brisket.

I have a large BGE and regularly smoke briskets. I try to find the smaller briskets 11-13 lbs, but I've cooked a 15 lb brisket without an issue. I don't know if I'd go much bigger although I've seen people do up 17-18 lbs. I will admit that everytime I do a brisket, I wonder how much easier it would be on the oval primo.

BGE has a new band that is easier to open. You can lift it with one finger. Saw someone mention that feature mentioned in a previous comment.

I have a BGE and when doing research found everyone compared their grill to a BGE.

Those saying BGE is too high, must be looking at high end patio and pool stores. Those places mark them way up. I bought my BGE from a guy in Collins, MS. The guy sells appliances. BGE wouldn’t even list him as a dealer on their website because the other dealers were pissed he was selling them so cheap.

There’s another place in Eldorado, AR (Glen Mechanical) that has a good price.

For those that have the old band, email BGE customer service and they’ll likely swap it out for you. I got mine yesterday

Dang, y'all have more money than I do to spend on a damn smoker. Then again I'm not an OT roller .

If I can't cook it on my Weber kettle, Brinkman bullet, or oven, I'll get carry out. Noting that I've been using Weber kettles for 40 years, and have gone thru five of them. I do appreciate the heat retention of a ceramic grill, but just can't come to grips with the price.

I was about to pull the trigger on a Kamado Joe Classic II when I fell into a really good deal on an Egg. Pick which color you like because they are both great.

If you go with KJ, get with NolaGT.

I was going to post in this thread but I wanted to ask KJ a question moving forward after my first order from them. I had a minimum to hit and a certain price point for my cost. I need to see how it operates after the first order before I send out more prices. Usually the more I buy the better my cost = the better your cost is. I’ll check with primo as well for current deals.

3deadtrolls is right tho I can save y’all on both primo and kj if y’all got time and can pick up in the laffy area.

nolagt3 at gmail will get to me. I know KJ is struggling to keep up with demand (and maybe there import ability is jacked from covid) so I am waiting to hear back from my email yesterday. I will follow up with Primo as well.

TexasHand ygm...I also sent a list for Cajun RV works with there deep fryers and what not and there is also Master Built on the KJ list
