I am retired and do some painting on the side. I am trying to decide how much to charge a friend for some painting on their rental house. I did the following: painted the ceiling in a bathroom, scrubbed 2 sets of cement steps and a landing then painted them, painted 2 outside doors & painted 3 iron railings.
Is $500 too much?

How long did it take to do all that?? I think $500 sounds fair.

Did you pay for supplies? I would charge 50 an hour plus supplies.

Don't sell yourself short. It may take you a few jobs to zero in on your pricing. If you do the following, word of mouth will spread and you'll become un-retired.

Answer/return calls promptly
Show up

How big was the ceiling? Are you trying to charge fair market value or a friend rate?

If he hired someone it would at least be $1000 I'd think.

I told him that the above two things would seperate him from 70 percent of others. He is 13. He thought o was joking

I’d go by the hours plus supplies.

I'm saving your email for future painting needs and will give it to others.
