I have two old push lawnmowers that I would like to get rid of. They quit working several years ago, but I'm sure someone a lot more mechanical than myself could probably get them working again. Do you have to bring them to a certain place since they once had oil and gas in them or can I just put them on the curb and someone will get them?

Yep, I’ve always wondered who comes by and gets them. It’s like the lawn mower fairy

Put mine at the curb last week when I got a new one. It was gone in the morning.

FB Marketplace and Craigslist have free catagories.....

I list as curbside, but make them message for address typically. Cuts down on traffic.

I assume only people who live within the city limits can do this. I live directly across from the city limits and the county wont pick up shite. If you need shite hauled off, you have to do it yourself. But the guys across the street can just put their shite on the curb and the city picks it up. Lucky bastards.

well you know what you need to do then, just put it across the street

but as mentioned above, put it on FB and they have guys that do nothing but come pick up old mowers and use them for repair parts for mowers they fix and resell

This applies to almost every appliance as well if you're trying to get rid of stuff. I had a dresser and dryer stay out and get randomly taken within 3 hours in my neighborhood.

In N.O. this works for any appliance-----washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, lawn equipment, etc.

Usually gone in less than 2 hours after hitting the curb.

I live in The Woodlands and you really aren't supposed to leave stuff by the road that doesn't fit in your can. The garbage trucks won't pick it up. But, there are beater trucks driving around on trash day loading up their beds with stuff like that. They fix it up and sell it. I've put a super cheap BBQ pit by the road and it was picked up before I got back to my front door

i live in an older historic neighborhood and this is the way. stuff doesn't usually last a day. mildly trashy, but effective

the other day we bought a new fangled coffee maker. i cleaned out the old one and stuck it on my sidewalk by the street. i then remembered that i had an older ninja coffee bar i didn't use any more, i didn't even clean it but got it down and took it to the street and the first coffee maker was gone in less than 3 minutes.

In N.O. you don't even have to put it on the curb. they'll come in your house and get them.

Sadly, this is true too.

Well, I'm going to take everyone's advice and put them out on the curb Friday night, so hopefully they'll be gone by that morning! I'll keep you guys updated!

I actually talked to one of the guys that goes around with a trailer picking stuff up. He said that he tries to fix stuff if he can and then sells it. If he can’t fix it he parts the metal out. He said that most stuff can be fixed with cheap parts though.

His easiest thing to fix is vacuum cleaners and washing machines. He said it’s almost always a belt issue and people just don’t know how to check it.

Wait till Saturday morning.
Roll out to curb, walk back to house.
Repeat with second mower.
Both will be gone by sundown, if not by lunchtime.
Problem solved.

The people in this thread aren't talking about trash service, they're saying you can put anything by the curb and some rando will pick it up almost instantly. I had a dude pick up an old treadmill, and there's an old couple who stops by to pick up my bags of leaves to use as mulch.
