I was cleaning my back patio yesterday and now my gfci outlet tripped and won't reset. I am sure it must have gotten wet. Should I simply replace it? Will it dry out and start working again? Thanks.

Replace it.
Unless somehow you think it's still wet a day later

If there is no power supply to the outlet your GFCI will not reset. Check the breaker box to make sure the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. Try resetting the outlet. If it still doesn't reset moisture in the wiring or outlet may be the problem.

Will it dry out and start working again? Maybe

I'm certain you did, but just in case you didn't...did you check the actual breaker it's on? GFCI outlets wont reset without power to them.

Checked the breaker box this morning and nothing was tripped.

I just thought of something. The outlet has a red light that lights up when it needs to be reset. Wouldn't it need power to turn the light on? If so, that would lead me to believe the outlet is bad.

I had that exact problem a few weeks ago when I pressure washed my front porch. When I changed it out, I noticed the contractor used an indoor GFCI outlet on my front porch. Switched it to an outdoor one and no problems since.

The original outlet that my septic aerator pump was hooked up to went bad after 5 years, so I replaced it with brand new "weather resistant" GFCI. That one went out after 4 months. Replaced it again and figured if it went bad again that quickly then there's probably something wrong with the aerator. This one has lasted over a year so far.

Those darn things aren't cheap.

It shouldnt be bad, but wouldnt be unheard of or rare. Id just change it since the breaker wasnt tripped.

Remove the cover and let it air out first.

Had the same issue....was humidity build up in an outdoor bathroom.

Went and bought a replacement, but was able to reset before having to change out. I guess it dried out in time.

Mine trips when I wash the front door area. My trick is to get the blower and blow it for a min or 2 and then it will reset. Might work for you.

forget code, switch it out to a regular outlet.
last thing you want to do is be using an electric smoker and the GFCI trips mid cook. lol
