My family is starting a family "memorial park" (a place for ashes to the spread), but it is way back up in the deer woods. There is a small body of water and we want to plant various flowers around it, but we need something deer will not eat (we already has jonquils and other bulbs as deer - at least in our area - don't eat them). Any suggestions?

Oleander
Azaleas (I don’t think they will) it’s toxic to sheep and they are very similar.

Daffodils
Like hyacinths, daffodils are toxic and therefore fully deer-proof. Deer rarely touch them, and even squirrels leave them alone.

Grape Hyacinth
Hyacinths are one of the very few bulbs that can legitimately be called deer-proof. The bulbs are poisonous to deer, squirrels, and other bulb-eaters. Nor will deer eat the flowers and foliage once the bulbs bloom.

If you've got plenty of sunlight, Mexican bush sage (Salvia leucantha) is highly deer-resistant and attracts lots of butterflies.

Mexican bush sage looks great but produces dead stems that need to broken off and removed annually.

Society garlic is also highly deer-resistant and easy to grow, but gives off a slight garlic odor nearby.

Other than oleander mentioned in a previous post, the highly deer-resistant flowers we've found all have purple blooms.

There's a long list of supposedly deer-resistant plants that get immediately eaten in our neighborhood.
