I will be building a "L" shape fence and the long section will be about 190ft. My question is for the design of the fence do I need to go with a shadow box design are can I go with a std privacy design? I will be using 4x4 for the post.

What is the purpose of the fence? What do you need it to do? Are their design standards you need to adhere to?

Your questions seems a good bit vague...

The purpose of the fence is for privacy. I was just worried about a long run like that, that maybe I would have issues with wind. I have no standards that I need to meet.

Do you prefer one over the other? Shadow box looks better.

Shadow box looks good but does allow for views into your yard if viewed on an angle.

Shadow box also allows for wind to flow through the fence easier so that could be a plus in more windy areas.

You are going to use a good number more planks when you overlap them to achieve the shadow box look so it's pricier than a standard fence.

Other than that it's pretty much personal preference.

If you’re really worried about the wind, space your posts 6 feet apart and bury them 3 feet deep. Or use 3” galvanized poles or 4” galvanized posts.

i recently redid part of my fence and switched to a shadow box type. Viewed from a certain angle, you can see through, but to compensate for that i shortened the gap width between boards on both sides of the fence

This.

I'll never understand the love shadowbox fences get. It's impossible to trim all the grass with a weedeater as it grows up between the 2 sections. Plus the many other downsides.
