I grow key limes in a 25 gallon container, but it weighs 70lbs and I have to wrestle it into my shed under a grow light every time the temps drop below 40. It spends pretty much all of December - February under the grow light indoors.

I want to grow pink guava, but it seems like it will be just as much hassle as the key lime.

Anyone got guava/avocado/etc. planted in the ground and if so, which zone? I already protect a Meyer lemon and a cara cara navel orange in the ground, so adding the guava wouldn't be that much effort.

I’ve got 2 avocado plants a Super Hass, and a Joey. Joey in the ground SH in an 80 gallon box, plan to put in the ground in the spring. Young trees so no fruit yet, but they both are doing great. Cold tolerant down to 28’. I imagine will be more capable of colder as they mature. Those varieties are bc type A and B. Should improve pollination.

I have multiple other citrus, my Persian lime is an all star and made it through the every winter since 2019. I’m located in Prairieville area. There’s a Louisiana avocado FB group if you’re looking for more info.

Thanks for the response. Is your lime in the ground?

Yes it is. It’s on the northeast side of my house so gets about 6 -8 hours of sun most days. Was a normal 3 gallon size at planting, but now it’s over 10ft! My 3 other citrus have been in the ground same time frame and are lent even 6 feet, although the trunks are large. All I can figure is just perfect growing conditions for the lime vs. the others. Nature is wild!
