I’m not sure if anyone’s suggested it yet, but Speed Queen

Get the TC5 Speed Queen. Family of four. My wife and kids look at clothes, and automatically think they're dirty after their gaze. It's mind boggling how many clothes they go through. We've had it for about five years now. Has been flawless. It's a workhorse and isn't a pinko commie washing machine. It will full the tub full of water, has a great agitator, and you can lift the lid without it stopping. There's a little flipper thing in the back that you just have to put a clothes pin on to stop if from shutting off when lifting the lid....takes about a minute to do.

This is what Kathy told me:

TC5. The difference:

The TC is the classic no lid lock transmission fills with water. A more aggressive wash but like they used to work in the day.

I need to look into this. How is this done?

Clothespin mod. I used a magnet, but a clothespin works exactly the same.

Did anyone get this clothes pin modification to work? I’ve watched several videos and tried different thing but the hook on the front still engages.

You aren't doing something right. It works fine. You can get it done with a clothes pin or a magnet. When it's dumping water in the tub, play with the latch flipper thing on the back. I can't remember if it needs to stay up or down. Whatever position it needs to be in, position the clothes pin to keep it there.

Did you cuss while doing this? I've always found when I do projects and can't get it to go my way I say something to the effect of "You mother fricking son of a bitch!"

Usually, I can successfully complete said project after letting my inner trashiness out.

I did not cuss. First and foremost I will work on that.

So is this modification to keep water flowing while it’s filling if you open it only or to be able to open it at any time during the complete cycle?

Basically, what it does, is it tricks the washer into thinking the lid is always closed. I like peeking in there from time time when its washing clothes to ensure the clothes are turning over properly. It also gives me the red arse when the water stops when I open the lid.

My wife is notorious for loading enough clothes in there to warm the Siberian army. You don't get good turnover and agitation with a shite ton of (overloaded) clothes in the tub.

But regardless if it thinks it’s closed or not, in the order of functions, the hook lock at the front still would still engage, right?

Lid unlocked
Open lid
Load clothes
Close lid
Turn on
Fills with water
Senses lid is closed and engages front hook lock
Wash drain rinse spin finish
Disengages front lock
Lid free to open

You're attempting Calculus when this is a basic addition/subtraction project. I don't know what you're referring to when you're talking about the hook lock in front. I'm assuming the flipper thing in back engages/disengages this hook lock that runs to the front of the machine.

Just do what I said above.....let water fill the tub, then start playing with the flipper in the back. Play with the flipper in back until the water still fills the tub (with the lid open). When you get the flipper in a position to where it still fills the tub with the lid open, clamp your clothes pin on that flipper that "locks" the flipper in that position.

I'm hoping what I'm saying makes sense. Remember to cuss if unsuccessful.

I was just able to do it without pulling the washer away from the wall. With the lid closed I simply felt the clip in the back and put a clothespin on it. Now when I open the washer it doesn't click. It will fill with water, keep spinning, etc with the lid open.

Ok, I said a few minor cuss word like heck and darn and was able to get it to fill without turning off when I opened. When it went to the wash cycle it clicked a bunch and locked up. Had to unplug/plug to reset.

So I started googling and we may be comparing apples to oranges.

In the pic below from online, there’s nothing where I have it circled in yellow. Mine has a hole where a hook from the lid goes in and it physically locks there when it switches to wash. Do y’all have that?

Ok. Speed Queen must've updated to a more pinko commie version. Mine doesn't have a hook and switch up front. There's the rat hair in your tuna.

I'd still try to find a way to defeat the commie trap.

Mine doesn’t have a latch there either.

Are you sure you have a TC5 model?

Yes, confirmed tc5. Purchased may 2020.

There is a way to bypass the USSR lock, sticking with the light wood remedy, you use a popcicle stick. Will try tomorrow.

I only asked because the TC5 is advertised as not having a lid lock

We had a front-loading Bosch and gave it to the church after 2 years of running each load at least twice to clean the clothes. Bought a speed queen and will never own anything else. You are about to be re-introduced to clean clothes.

Front loading washing machines are trash.
