DISCLAIMER: This is not a board request thread or a pro-board plea. This is only a general inquiry.

For the past year or so, there seems to have been an increase in dissatisfaction for the current setup of the boards this site has made available. While I, and most others, are sure there is "reason behind the madness", it still begs the question on why many of these inquiries are seemingly ignored (which causes further questioning). This has become ever more evident in the past month with topics of health, fitness, golf, and literature/arts causing an unworthy distraction.

My question, and that of others, is why the site's boards are constructed the way they are. The last board to be "added", if I am not mistaken, was the Tech Board. While the Soccer Board, stemming from the 2010 World Cup, was created in lieu of getting rid of the World Cup Board, there are many who criticize that board. However, it is undoubtedly the most popular sport in the world, and a growing sport in the U.S. and should have its own board. The Music Board and Tech Board have taken discussion to a more meaningful level.

Recently, however, there has been a stagnation in the regard of proper discussion in terms of where that discussion belongs. Rules are being enforced which are not made clear and are not present in the Guidelines/FAQ section of the site. In all, the evolution of the site (other than a few minor changes here and there), has all but ceased.

In continuation of the addition of the Music Board, we saw that general entertainment discussion hidden between the O-T Lounge and the Movie/TV Board was finally specified in a manner that gave way to much more meaningful discussion. The Tech Board did much of the same, and provided an arena for people to discuss topics usually meant for the O-T to a place where they would not be overlooked or swamped with BS answers for those needing help. My question is, why stop there? In an age of self-improvement and technological advancement, why is there not an area to discuss wellness, health, and fitness? Why is there not an area to discuss leisure activities, such as those sports (non-professional golf and tennis, literature, poetry, etc.)?

While I do not disagree that the Tech, Music, and Soccer Boards were great additions to the site, is it reasonable to believe that there can only be so many boards before it becomes "too much"? What if the boards were restructured? Why are they created and organized the way they are? Is it possible to have subpages for "sports" (Rant, Saints and Pelicans talk, More Sports, etc.), "entertainment" (Movie/Tv, Music, Gaming), "wellness" (Food and Drink, Fitness, etc), and so on...It would reduce the clutter of so many boards yet allow for many more places for specific discussion.

To me, at least, it seems that there is a very large demand for discussion on topics that can only be placed on the O-T. While that is not so much a horrible thing, we all know the reputation and seriousness of the O-T. It seems to have become more of an IM board or general discussion board, and does not provide a location of much actual discussion. I'm just curious as to why so many of us users of this great site are led to believe that our discussions must be limited or done between users IRL, or are constantly being silenced without a reasoning as to why.

Thoughts? Discussion? This is really an open-ended question to aid both the users and admins into ever-improving a site we all frequent and love so much. This place has so much, but could also use so much more. Sure I can go to another site to discuss everything in the same place, but after only a few moments, your voice is lost in the drone of others. This place is unique in that regard, in that this has become a close-knit community.

Not my intention nor am I in favor of it. That was my point: if there is a board for every little thing it will clutter too much. I merely suggest an alternative to the "madness"...

Thank you.
A golf board would work. There are so many different parts of the SEC that hit the MSB. They know a majority of us are from/around LA. They don't wanna get in the golf thread. I get it. One thread can't support that many different conversations.
But a board could.
I like talking about LA, TX, and MS golf. Maybe some FL golf once a year. But there are boards for every SEC team.
We could all support a board with our respective threads about areas/courses/weather etc.
Different threads for different areas could talk about their college teams, alumni on tour, etc.

Seems like it would work to me. Maybe I just like golf more than you.

Well frick, man. The only way to get any of Yall to actually read shite about this without anchoring is to make it all formal and long and shite.

Maybe if our questions were answered about why we can't talk about certain shite or why our stuff keeps getting anchored i wouldn't have to type all that

Well, the topics themselves are being anchored based on technicalities, some of which aren't listed in the Guidelines/FAQ.

In general, once these topics are removed or anchored, the outcry is silenced or ignored.

ETA: it's not that I don't agree with the reasoning sometimes, but when it's done and not explained, then it just seems like yall are having a pissy day and taking it out on here.

Not true. We have answered.

It's pretty simple. No daily/weekly threads unless approved.

Don't turn threads into an IM thread.

Every topic doesn't need a daily thread.

Understood.

Understood as well, however we all know this is a grey area with how IMing is interpreted.

Also understood.

My argument is, when you go to the soccer or movie/tv board, there will be inevitable talk amongst the group of people in that thread that someone coming from the OT may not understand. That was the argument against the golf threads. While it was more rampant there, those threads were all about golf. Period. Just because someone doesn't understand it doesn't mean it's off topic. I stopped posting in the weekly thread because I was taking a break from golf, but I still looked at it and saw where the convo was going. It was almost always on topic, and strayed only as much as every other boards discussions.

As far as a "daily" or "weekly" thread, I understand that we can't have that in the title. Noted. But if we start a thread every single day asking where everyone is playing, is that not the same thing? And if someone starts talking about equipment, is it not then off topic? Golf is way too complex of a sport to be simplified in a "where are you playing today?" thread.

You know what I mean?

Hell TexAgs has a Travel Board, History Board, Military Board, and even a Religion & Philosophy Board (with 500K posts!). Doesn't seem to be hurting their site traffic any.

We need The Symposium bro
