Here's the deal: Germans doesn't even make sense in context.

Posters cite the source of "germans" from animal house where The "Germans bombed Pearl Harbor."

So that means that "germans" means misinformation, not repeated information.

You should use THAT as a plat for to rid it from here, not your feelings. You have to approach it objectively, then win the crowd over with your personal take.

Hope that helps, doubt you read it all.

Germans as an insulting and stigmatizing word is old and unfunny, but it has become a useful word.

People have been asking for it to stop since the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

It is so old and unfunny. The people that use it weren't even around when it was original and fresh. It provides an annoying way to tell someone something has already been posted, an act which is annoying in itself.

So I actually stopped and read your post and it seems to me that you are getting pissed off about someone telling someone that what they are posting is old news.

That's pretty much it, plain and simple. It's not supposed to be funny anymore, its meant to be a short and to the point way of saying "Hey dumbshit, if you knew how to use the godamn search function you would know that so and so just posted that earlier today/2 weeks ago. God you fail at life" but consolidating it down to just "Germans".

Do you hate efficiency in other parts of life or just internet message board posts?

I can understand your point,. Although, as being a genuinely new poster (and a longtime lurker), I find it to be an interesting little bit of personality unique to TD, similar to some other things goin on around here, for sake of tradition. I never had to ask what it meant, when the context it what used generally interested me, so I searched it and found its' meaning.I couldn't tell what the admins will say, but they may not be agreeable because it is one of the few things that gives TD.com its' uniqueness, and not some ordinary ole' forum board. That is just my .02, not worth much!

How about ignoring the thread or just saying "Already Posted" or "Old News"? Seems equally as efficient and no failed attempts at humor or asshatery. Or, if you want to be funny or clever in how you assert this message, then be original.

But that would be even more boring than "germans"
