Why do people still plumb-bob?

It's been proven not to work... so why???

It's not necessary to plumb-bob every putt, since the slope on most greens is fairly obvious. But sometimes it can be tough to determine with the normal technique, and that's when plumb-bobbing comes in handy.

The only way it "works" is if the slope is the same from where the golfer is standing to the ball and to the hole. If you can't determine the slope to begin with, how the hell do you know the slope is constant between those 3???

Why do people use AIM POINT?

Back in the day, if I was grinding hard but losing a little focus, I would do it - just to help reaffirm what I thought I saw.

I laugh every time somebody misses with Aim Point. shite don't work.

I plump bob on pretty much every putt. Wherever the shaft is in relation to the hole is where I am the putt. Seems to work pretty good for me.

The science behind it actually works but only if it's employed effectively which is tough.
You have to be able to stand perpendicular to the putt and the slope has to be the same from where you are standing all the way to the hole.
I don't do it, but I don't putt that great either.

I probably average 31-32 putts a round per my stat tracker
With about 55% GIR
Mediocrity

Just go walk next to the hole on your way to your ball. I learn more about a putt by seeing what it's gonna do in the last few feet than anything else I do. Then a quit squat behind the ball to visualize the path of the putt. Pick a target on the line and go.

I can see the line on down hill putts much better from the opposite side. So I'll usually head towards the hole no matter where my ball is. And like you said, getting close to the hole and finding the slope/grain there is going to be the most helpful. I pick a target and use the alignment line on my ball.
As a side note, this is by far the worse thing about the taylormade tp5 balls. A thin alignment line next to circles on a curved surface is an optical illusion. It doesn't look straight. And when the line is punched on the ball, it doesn't mark straight to begin with even though they try to put it on the seam. That's a huge oversight.

I plumb bob every putt and I'm a pretty good putter
But I also stand as close to the ball as possible when I do it to make sure the slope is the same or very similar.

I've never understood how people can use that line to putt.
Posted on 8/14/17 at 6:49 pm to CoachChappy
I draw a longer thicker line on mine
Posted on 8/14/17 at 6:52 pm to redfieldk717
I still can't use it. The line can changes due to speed played and I can't line it up.
