Planning a trip for late August to play the course. Anyone play it and any recommendations on where to stay, eat, and drink would be greatly appreciated. Also any other nice courses in the area to play?

I would skip it, the layout is awesome but it's poorly maintained. Last time I played it we quit after 15 holes because the round was already 5+ hours long. Go play Cypresswood Traditions course, it's up that way off 1960.

I agree with that. Tradition is a good, underrated track that hosts the Houston Open qualifier.
Depending on when you're playing you can also get out on GC of Houston for under $100. It's just south from Tour 18 off beltway 8.
As for the area, it's by the airport, so there are several hotels close by. It's not the nicest area, so don't expect any high end hotels. There are restaurants in the Humble and Kingwood areas. I'm not that familiar enough to recommend any though.

Better courses in Houston that you can get on :
Eagle Pointe, Wildcat, Black Horse, Gleann Pines, Golf Club of Houston, Cypresswood

Played Wildcat in June. Beautiful course but when the wind picks up it is brutal.

The best public course within an hour of downtown Houston is the wilderness at lake Jackson ... cpresswood tradition is probably 2nd ... tour 18 has always had maintenance problems

Wilderness is a fun track, but I would take Blackhorse South and GC of Houston (when they're not working on it) over it. Cypresswood Tradition and Meadowbrook Farms would round out my top 5

we enjoyed Tour 18; played it twice in one day. morning ground was very slow, but afternoon round was very quick.
4 or 5 holes you will remember for a long time.
Eagle Pointe in Baytown is a beautiful course and green fees are cheap.

Eagle Pointe has an Augusta type aura around it. Pinestraw, huge trees, quiet, awesome practice facilities. I highly recommend it. The greens run very quick

I forgot all about Eagle Pointe. You don't even feel like you're in Houston out there wth some of that rolling terrain. I haven't been out there in 10 years, but it is a really good track.
In 2002ish, they had 2-3 Texans cheerleaders as thier restaurant and cart girls.

Good to see Eagle Pointe get mentioned! Great course and can be pretty challenging depending on how the rough is set up. Greens are always quick

August Pines in Spring. Played it a few months back and it was in great shape and we got thru the course pretty quickly too. Finishing holes are pretty good too.

I'm a member at Augusta Pines/Gleannloch Pines, and Augusta it is in pretty bad shape right now. They over seeded in the winter, and the Bermuda has still NOT come back. I've actually been playing most of my rounds at Gleannloch. The greens are in GREAT shape, as always, at Augusta but that's about it right now.

Last time I played tour 18, we had to wait 45 mins after our start time for carts to come in, the round was so slow because everyone was stacked on each other and we only made it through 13 before dark. Never going back.

I was in Houston this past weekend for a wedding and played Tour 18 with some friends. We teed off at 9:30 and had two groups of four. We did not have to wait once the entire round.
The layout was really cool and I thought they did a really nice job replicating the holes. The course was in really good condition as well as the greens. I do not know if we just got lucky this past weekend with pace of play and conditions but I would recommend the course.

If you are planning a trip to H-town just to play Tour 18 I think your bubble may get popped once you get there. It's ok but I live right by it so that mystic has worn off but it's cool for the first time. It's not a goat ranch by any stretch but there are many courses here that are much better. I also would avoid it like the plague on weekends. Very crowded in the AM but afternoons are generally wide open.
The list of Wildcat, Cypresswood Traditions, Blackhorse, Meadowbrook Farms, and EaglePointe are solid. You can throw in Oakhurst as a sleeper,

Aye, neighbor.
The course I miss most since joining KCC is Cypresswood Tradition. Love that one. Hate to hear Augusta Pines is not in great shape. It was absolutely perfect the last time I played.
I still have not played Tour 18.
