Rules Guru, How is this legal?

Watching the PGA recently, I noticed several players brushing loose impediments too small to see on TV from their putting lines using the back of their hands.
I thought that touching your intended putting line was verboten.
In fact, one frequently sees players and/or caddies taking great care not to actually touch the green surface when indicating where the ball should be played.
TIA

Because it's legal to touch your line while moving loose Impediments

You gonna send an email about each one you saw?

Thanks Mailman
I thought using a towel or glove to brush away loose impediments was permitted but not touching the line with one's hand.
Seems like an unscrupulous player could alter the grain or other imperfections (not a ball mark) using their hands.

Does my interest in improving my understanding of the rules irritate you, or are there too many big words in my post for you to understand?

It's a joke. Either you missed it which is fine or you have zero sense of humor.

My bad, missed your humor.
I'm a fledgling compared to you 50k posters
Hope to get better as I go.

for future reference, if several players on the pga tour are doing something, that is strong evidence their behavior is allowed by the rules ...

You can brush away loose impediments, but not "test the surface". The whole not touching your line thing seems pretty nit-picky to me. There is no way you're gonna gain information from touching the line that would give you an advantage on a putt.

I had little doubt it was legal because I saw JT and several other players do it more than once.
Were it illegal CBS would have recieved a flood of calls from viewers to rat the players out.
But this whole touching your line thing is pretty confusing so I came to tge wisemen of tge golf board seeking clarification.

I learned yesterday that you can't fix spike marks. The tournament rules here allow you to do it, but I never knew it was a thing. It seems like BS to me.

One of the dumbest rules in a dumb game.

No mulligans is up there with the dumb rules as well. I could have used 6 or 7 of those yesterday

It's one of the proposed rule changes by the USGA that would take effect in January 2019, IIRC.

Mulligans should be for sale in the pro shop next to the beer cooler.

The mulligan shelf is empty at this goat ranch. Something about PGA rules apply, play it down, putt it out, etc. All horseshite in my opinion

And every putt inside the length of flagstick should be a pick up gimme.

Actually, brushing off loose impediments with a towel used to be illegal, while using your hand was legal. I think they may have changed it to both being legal.
Neither player nor caddie can touch the intended line of putt when figuring the line. John Daly had a scary moment at the PGA Championship when he won. They thought the caddie may have touched the line with the flagstick, but was found not to have.
