Olde Oakes has hired Reed Gore to take over day to day operations as of this week. Lord knows they needed a change. They are going to try to bring back the “ Oaks” nine by end of summer.

I've known Reed since elementary and played High School golf with him. Still talk to him on FB from time to time. Glad to hear this. He's a good guy and will probably do well there.

Olde Oaks has the best layout in the area. Including the private courses. I hate to see it in the condition it is in now.

They told me this was going to happen last year when I joined Stone Bridge/OA. It's not going to happen. I took a cart and drove through that 9 this past July and it doesn't even resemble a golf course. Fallen trees, torn up cart path. The greens are destroyed. As much as I would love to have Oaks open, because that was my favorite nine, it would be a big mistake to try and open it. They need to put that money into the other 18 holes and focus on getting them right first. I mean just two months ago they had two holes closed on Cypress because the greens were so bad. They maintain #9 on Oaks so it makes you think it might be in restorable condition, but if you drive the course, it would take millions to get it right, and that's money they don't have right now.

I Highly doubt they will, they've been saying that for a while now. and like iwy said its completely destroyed. I'd be happy if they could make cypress decent again.

This will never happen. Ji, the owner, does his best to never spend money and just keep that course in horrible condition. I play mainly at Stonebridge and we’ve been complaining for a while about a bunch of stuff. He purchased new carts last year and thought that was good enough. He’s an extreme tight wad that will NEVER spend the money to address actual issues of the courses or clubhouses. Just puts a bandaid on it and calls it good.

May be true that oaks will not reopen. I am just saying what Reed told me personally last week. They have removed fallen trees and started mowing. He said they will begin green repair asap. His words, not mine. See his fb posts 4 days ago also. He says it is not far from playable now… ( I question that part)

He is super cheap for sure. The head pro at Stonebridge also cuts grass out at olde Oaks because he won't hire enough people. David Martinez told me tried to get him to let him basically build moguls on most of the bunkers on Cypress. Since that would cut down on maintenance/wasting time just trying to keep bunkers in halfway decent shape and let him put that time into green maintenance. Nope. Doesn't take the advice of the head golf pro who also moonlights as the greenskeeper. The bunkers are awful, they needed to let those go a long time ago.

Going to message Reed about a few things. This is good news, at least the owner is making hires. He's making the money for sure, he just only wants to spend it on Stonebridge.

Ol Hank.

I through a tournament out there two years ago and Hank was helping out. Before the tournament everyone was all on/around the putting green and Hank loaded up a big cooler full of water and ice that he was going to put out on the course. I guess he forgot to strap it down and he took off and of course it fell off the back and all the water and ice fell out and he just yells out "frick!!!" in front of everyone. Man we were dying laughing. That dude is a trp.

Yeah, Hank is gone, he was a character for sure. Not much personality to have to deal with the public. I played golf with him some a few years back. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way unfortunately….

O dang, I didn't know they let him go. Was always an off guy to have basically running things. Definitely seemed like he would be better at running a farm than a golf course.

I messaged Reed, gonna try and play with him some this year. You from this area? Play in any scrambles?

From bossier, just met reed last week. Was having a few drinks after golf and ran into him. We have a group of about 9/10 that play couple times a week. I just started back a couple years ago after retirement.

I talk to David a lot about what’s going on at both courses. The amount of stuff he tries to get done to better both courses vs what Ji actually agrees to is laughable. There’s a guy in my regular group that has tried to buy Stonebridge twice. Once outright on his own and another time with a group of investors. Ji turned him down both times. David is actively trying to convince another buddy of mine to purchase Olde Oaks because he will actually put the money in it to get it back in shape. He knows Ji will turn it down tho. Olde oaks is his money cow because of the real estate possibilities. It sucks because I love SB, it’s my home course and I want it to be what it can. I also want Olde Oaks to get back to what it was. But the owner simply doesn’t care that much. If I ever did win the lottery, I would make Ji an offer he couldn’t say no to. Would that be stupid? Absolutely. But I want both courses to thrive instead of die a slow death that seems to be happening.

Olde oaks is a great track, especially at 27 holes. Still building a lot of homes out there. Mostly a little smaller homes than in the past on cypress. I still would possibly consider buying out there if the right home became available.

Just wondering if any of you guys may have a divot tool with the Olde Oaks logo on it. I know that IF they exist, they would be older.

This is the reason why Ji will never sell. The real estate potential is incredible.

Was coming here to post that

Still don't know if I like that idea. As much as I love that 9, I think I'd rather they get 18 holes in good shape instead of 27 in halfway good shape.

I agree. The current 18 needs a ton of work before they add another unkept 9 to it.

Cypress needs work, Meadow is always in decent shape.

Maybe the play is get oaks "playable" and shut down some of cypress 11-14 are almost unplayable.
