re: Lessons

I'll be the first to say I felt that I played much better before lessons than after... for a while.

I fortunately found an instructor that worked with me while I was going through a financial situation and couldn't really afford lessons or golf in general, really, but he did so basically for free because he realized I had a lot of potential (kind of makes myself mad for not picking up golf when I was in high school).

But when I started doing lessons, I went from shooting in the low 80s consistently to shooting mid-90s-high 90s and questions why I did it. But, a year later, and I'm shooting the best golf of my life with my handicap at a 1 now, recently shooting 3 straight rounds under par from 6800+ yards.

The instructor is very passionate about what he does and he's doing so because it's not about the money to him and he wants me to really compete in the mid-ams. I know this is a rare find. Probably will have him caddy for me when I got for those next year. I still feel like I have a long way to go too. Hope I'm ready next year to make that big push towards the mid-ams.

Long story short, do research on your instructor and understand there will be a lot of downs before there are ups.
