I'm largely self taught and have gotten my score into the mid 80s somewhat regularly. I'm not great but not terrible and I know what works for me.

Having said that, I'm curious what the majority do when swinging irons. Do you rotate your wrists where the club head goes vertical with the ground? Or do you keep the club head horizontal with the ground and not roll your wrists?

I'm more of the latter. Club head stays horizontal with the ground. I can control a hook or hit it straight most of the time and I don't sacrifice distance from what I can tell.

My brother inlaw has all sorts of flight control issues and he rotates his wrists in his backswing. I'm hesitant to correct him mostly because I don't believe it teaching others bad habits. From my experience, there is too much going on mechanically to control the flight path.

Am I swinging odd? Or is it largely what feels right for you?

??? You can cherry pick my post all you want.

I know when I rotate my wrists, my ball goes way more unpredictable than when I don't rotate my wrists. . . hence the question. What is the right way. . .

Why would you add extra things to a golf swing like wrist rolling? Don't see what you would gain from doing it.

This is the logic I had when I quit doing it but I wasn't sure if allowing your wrists to open up gave you any additional range of motion or control.

What about on the driver then? I allow my wrists to roll a bit in the backswing but I seem to be able to get them around (albeit inconsistently) to keep my shot down the fairway. Is rolling your wrists on a drive typical?

If I thought about such things I would not be able to finish a round before dark.

Pick a spot 6” infront of the ball that is on my line.
Address the ball and don’t look at the target again.
Lock wrists.
Pull it back and let it go
Hold the follow through

That’s it

Does your wrist “cup” in backswing?

I start my downswing as soon as my hands open up

#1 rule: DO NOT offer advice unless asked for it.

As a mid-80's golfer myself, I do not believe I am anywhere near qualified to offer advice beyond which beer or whiskey I'd drink.

I let my wrist cock be sort of on auto pilot. I do focus much more on letting my left arm stay straight. Shorten your backswing from parallel on your iron shots.
