Anyone ever played there? Got a group of friends wanting to go up there for a 3 day weekend and play a Ryder Cup amongst ourselves.

I play it all the time. They have lost the fairway bunkers. Meaning they play as unplayable and you get a free drop if you hit it in one. Other than that it is in pretty good shape right now. It's a fun track and pretty reasonably priced.

How do you loose a bunker? Lack of maintenance?

Yep. Maintaining bunkers is labor intensive and apparently expensive. Black Bear has a shite load of bunkers and being a state run course in a broke arse state they couldn't afford to keep all of them up, I guess. It still plays fine and I kinda like the free drop out.

was there last week....course is in great shape, sans the fairway bunkers.

The guy in the pro shop said they have the money and going to start working on the bunkers.

Fun course, tough without playing with someone who has played there before, lots of blind shots and doglegs where you need to to know how far and where to hit it
