Yeah, you don't want to be the guy holding everyone up, but try to read the putt from all four angles. Look at other putts, even if they are from a different angles & distances, and see how they are breaking when rolling towards the hole. You don't want to overthink it, but you do what you can to get all the data you can.

If you have a long putt, sometimes it's good to make your target a 2-3 foot ring around the hole and try to setup your second putt. Almost like you're playing croquet. Too many people on long putts treat it like its a Hail Mary or half court shot and the ball just races by the hole.

I dont do that but if you find a routine that works for you that is reasonable than do it.

Short backstroke. No decelerating.

I find it's much easier to read the break from the opposite side of the hole. That's usually where I find the line getting a mental picture of where the ball needs to start and at what speed.

Yeah, it's amazing how different a putt will look from the other side sometimes.

The best putting tip that has worked for me is:

I'm a right-hander. I use the left hand low approach.
Take your stance and when you putt, concentrate on not moving your left ear. It sounds crazy, but it will keep your head still. Crenshaw advises this tip.

Also, as mentioned itt, I putt using the birdie, par, bogey method on the practice green. I do not leave until I am -5. It works on your pressure game.

How far are you from the hole when you start?

It varies depending on the condition of the putting green, how I'm playing, my mindset. It could be 5 or 6 feet or as many as 15. Create your own pressure putts. It's a fun drill.

It blows my mind sometimes when people don't do this. It's so easy to watch someone else putt. Obviously if someone has a little different line it won't be the same break, but you should at least be able to get a general feel for the putt either being uphill, downhill, or the way it breaks.
