My brother has been getting interested in golf, but not enough to drop some dough on lessons. I'm already getting him a series of lessons for Christmas, and this book as well. Great reviews online, any of yall have feedback on it? Link to Book

Great book with a lot of information, BUT Hogan fought a massive hook his whole life. A bunch of his information does not apply to the average golfer who fights a slice.

I would suggest Jack's Golf My Way.

Some of the pictures are confusing, but the content is good stuff.

I’d recommend every golfer read Chapter1, though.

That's an interesting point.

Just to be clear, I heard that during an interview for Golf digest. David Leadbetter and a few other teachers were talking about Hogans rules. They all agreed with that point, but at the same time agreed that it is an amazing book.

Most of the book is universal golf stuff, but some of it is targeted for golfers like Hogan who fight a hook.

As others have stated, there is some good info in there, but take it with a grain of salt.

Today, we have high speed cameras, launch monitors, pressure plates, etc that show you exactly what you’re doing compared to tour players. It has been proven that a lot of pro golfers are not doing what they “feel” they are doing.

Read it and followed the lessons. Found out a few years later that Hogan fought a hook early in his career and developed this method to eliminate his hook. The book did not serve me well but may be of use if you could have pro monitor your progress. Book is fun to read for a beginner.

Buy him a copy of Harvey Penick's Little Red Book.

My dad gave me a copy as a kid, and while he won't learn anything that will revolutionary transform his game, it's still a great read.

I went ahead and bought the book. Been reading through it before I pass it along, and I've really enjoyed reading it so far.
A little excerpt from the first page and something we can all relate to.
"The golfer truly believes in long engagements. He courts a mistress as fickle as she is bewitching. She leads him on with little favors that fill him with hopes and conquest. Then she scorns him and humiliates him (in front of his friends, too) and leaves him despairing. Sometimes he hides his despair in rages: he hurls clubs into water hazards and presents a dozen new balls to his caddy. He is through, finished, kaput."

I taught myself the swing using Hogan’s book, and some on course advice from a friend.

Since that time, I read Leadbetter, Penick, and Rotella, but I still go back to Hogan when people ask me for advice.

When I was starting out I was dealing with a slice, and this book changed everything for me. I learned how to correct my slice into a hook and find the middle ground.
