Being consistent with my driver

Like most here a consistent driver does wonders for my score. I'm a relatively long hitter so if I'm hitting fairways I've got a chance. What's your biggest swing key for consistently accurate drives?

Resist the urge to hit from the top of the swing. Keep head behind the ball. Stay in posture until the ball is gone

Move it forward in your stance a little, and weaken your grip. Then, shorten your take away. After you can manage to get comfortable with that, swing as hard as you want.

Nailed it, I'm not long, but I hit it pretty straight and hit a lot of fairways, what I call a 3/4 "punch" driver is probably the most accurate shot I have in the bag also for a long hitter, course management is a tough bill to swallow yet is the key to being consistent and shooting low scores.

make sure you have been properly fitted. a shaft too light, too flexible, too anything can have you doomed before starting your swing

Learn to punch that driver

I agree. But, the set up, and takeaway, are usually the culprit.

While true, a Saturday afternoon swing versus a Sunday morning swing could be total opposites, but yes a fitting can help get it close, in the end us hackers have to become more consistent in the swing and repetition department

Is your miss consistent or just spray it all over the place?
This too. It's fun to hit driver all the time but most times it's not necessary. I'm bad for this too. Always wanting to hit a driver as far as I can instead of playing to a yardage I'm comfortable with

Well depends, I'll miss left and right but I'd say my biggest miss is a pull hook
For reference when I used to keep a handicap I was a 10. I play a few times a month and shoot in the low to mid 80's on average.
I'm not completely missing my drive I just know if I could hit 2-3 more fairways a round I could start cracking into the 70's again

truth
if we're talking mechanics one of the most common flaws (and honestly one of the easiest things to fix) is the grip

Being a long hitter and loving your 3 wood could cure this on some par 4's less than 425 yards

I appreciate the advice on the stinger guys and punching a long iron or hybrid off the tee is something I do a lot on shorter par 4's
I'm specifically looking for advice on keeping the driver more consistent since I like being able to use the distance when I can since I'm not particularly accurate with my mid to long irons (but I'm working on that!).
Thanks for the tip on swaying, body control is definitely something that I should think about more when I drive

I hit moonshot slices with my driver (and sometimes my irons). Somebody tell my what I can do to fix it.

I'm in a similar boat to you. I get on the tee and all that goes through my head is murdering a driver. I really like the punch advice, especially on shorter holes.

Cut your driver down an inch. Also take one side of the course out of play. If you can only miss one way you will generally be fine. Work hard on taking the left shot out and only miss right if you do miss.

This is my issue as well. And it's an easier fix than a slice. In my experience a slice is a swing flaw and can be because of numerous reasons. With the pull hook you're simply rotating your hands over too quickly and trying to hit down on like your irons. You could try a midsize grip to keep your hands square. Bubba Watson uses 10 wraps of grip tape under his driver to keep his hands from rotating over. Also, try an open stance where your front foot is back some. I've tried shortening my driver but lost considerable distance.

Tempo, Tempo, Tempo. Dont get quick with a driver.

Meh. I'm quick with every club. Fixes will be different for different people. What's helped me most is getting my swing on video and working to keep my swing on plane. My problem with the driver is casting and getting contact toward the heal causing a fade.
And I'm all for getting fitted for clubs once you've found some consistency with a forgiving set. Finding the right head/shaft combo has really payed off and made things easier in terms of shot shape and adjustments.
