I recently got fitted for new irons. The currently play some old Vokeys that are probably 10yrs old. The grooves are worn out so it’s probably time replace. Anyone have experience with wedge fittings?
I currently hit my 60 80 yards and the 56 100yards, I bought them off the shelf.
Seems like I can get fitted for $80.00 and they’d probably waive the fee if I order new wedges. But the mark up would be more expensive than buying off the shelf. Looking for recs.

If they will waive the fee, why not.

Wedge shafts are very important IMO.

Still believe that S400 are the overall best for distance control and spin.

It was worth me hitting a strike plate. My clubs are 2* upright. AW is 1. 54/58 are standard.

I would like to do this, made a switch and I think I need a lower bounce.

Yes. In my opinion, it's a matter of how serious you are about your game. If you are satisfied with just knocking it around and do not care about getting down to "scratch" or serious competition, then of-the-rack is fine.
With all the loft and grind options available, I'd get a fitting. They also work on your gapping and distances.

Mine wasn’t. But I’m a equipment nerd and know my AOA and very familiar win the type of turf i play on along with the sand. I also knew what type of shots i use each wedge for. Did the wedge fitting and was told my wedges were already perfect for me. But wedges putter and driver i think you should def get fit for if you’re serious about this.

Shaft is important but a wedge fitting is useless if you're not being fit on real turf. Getting a wedge fitting inside off of a mat is pointless.

I understand your reasoning, but I think that is a very broad statement. Key data can be collected to determine a probable outcome. Launch angles, loft, lie, angle at impact, etc., would help give pretty accurate readings. I've done both.

I dont disagree but grind/bounce would play crucial role in all those, wouldn't it? Find it really hard to get the right grind off of a mat. YRMV

Was your iron fitting worth it to you?

The iron fitting was definitely worth it to me. So I decided to go ahead and get fitted for my Wedges. It was done indoors using a trackman. I had to hit in front of the hitting mat where you would normally hit irons. So this better simulated typical fairway tight lie. The fitting was based on my 60degree wedge. Started out with full swings to get my numbers. Then he pulled up a course simulation Par3 and had me hit 50yard shots. I hit every wedge available. In the end I was best with the Cleveland RTX Zipcore line up. The fitter said for my swing he recommended using the same MMT Iron shafts that I I was fitted into in my Irons. I ended up ordering 50,54,60. The fitting fee was waived but the total for each wedge was about $245.00 which is around $100 more than an off the shelf Cleveland wedge. Assuming that these wedges perform well for me, I can justify spending the additional $300 for these custom clubs. Now the 4week wait lol

Putters and wedges are the most precise part of your game, if you take golf sort of seriously, then id at least get some sort of fitting for wedges, if nothing else just to gap your clubs.

Wedges are the most important irons in your bag. Yes, go get fitted. There are even more variables to consider like bounce and grind. Not to mention what lofts you should be on. I'm on SM7s that I didn't get fitted for. My wedge game is great but I will not be skipping on a fitting when they are worn out. I'm guessing I would be fitted for a 60/56/52 and I currently have a 58/54/50 setup.

Worked well for me. I went from a traditional 50-54-58 setup where I had a huge gap between my PW and GW. Now my 50 is an AW as part of my Iron set that I can easily get 125 out of and my 55 is an easy 110-115. Much rather take off of my 60 on anything under 100 than have to try to take 25 yards off of my Pitching Wedge as I used too. They actually fit me in the Cleveland RBX Zip Core full face, took a while to get used to due to the ball rolling up the face but now I get more distance, control, and spin than I have ever before with wedges.

I went this past weekend to get fitted for wedges and I’m glad that I did. I was just going to order a set of Vokeys and use the online Titleist fitting guide. After hitting several Vokeys, the Cleveland’s were the best for my crappy swing. So it’s expensive but worth it to me. I’m now a true believer in getting fitted for all clubs.
