I am looking at getting a membership at either Oak Wing or Links on the Bayou in Alexandria. I know there are a few Cenla guys who are on here and I am curious to hear their thoughts. Anyone a member at either? Would be curious to hear pros/cons of any members at either.

I like both of the courses. Links has been in better shape but Oak Wing has made a great comeback after a rough start to the year.

LTB is definitely cheaper at $200/mo for green fees and cart plan compared to ~$185/mo for only green fees at Oak Wing.

Oak Wing feels like a true golf club with decent food and bar where LTB feels like its just a go golf and head back home. Would also like to start bringing my nephews (and eventually my kids) to get them around the game.

I grew up and went to high school in Alexandria (graduated in 2018) so very recently and i am there more than anywhere else. I personally rather the Links as a course for layout and it is usually in better shape. Of course, as you said, Oak Wing is more of a country club atmosphere but i just find that it is not always in great shape as consistent as the Links is. In my opinion, I would pick Links

Make the drive to Marksville & join Tamahka Trails. Better condition than either of Alexandria’s offerings, and only 30 min drive…

It's a great course, but I want the ability play 9 holes on a whim before I have to pick up kids. It's really a 45 minute drive from me one-way which turns into an entire afternoon.

Oakwing: better food, better bar. Layout is better and more challenging than links in my opinion but I am not a huge fan of links style courses. Carts used to have GPS system which can be cool or a plus if that's your thing (don't know if they still do). Unlimited range plan at Oakwing was awesome if they are still offering that.

Links: has been in better shape recently than Oakwing likely due to the change in ownership/change in pros at Oakwing.

Links offers cheaper weekday/weekend rates to the general public so I often times see more hackers/two guys playing out of one bag at Links where as this is less likely to be allowed or even seen at Oakwing.

Both are great courses though. Go play em both and see what kind of membership deals they are offering. Never know what kind of deal they may offer

Just make sure to do the math on whether it’s worth it. Since neither are truly private, the memberships amount to basically an annual fee. If you were going to play enough to make that a discount, it is certainly worthwhile. I dropped my Oakwing membership because, I wasn’t playing enough to justify it. I basically don’t play much at all during the winter due to hunting season, and I also wanted to feel less obligated to play one course all the time. Now I play both of them, go to Tamahka more often than I used to, etc. And I’m really not losing any money.

Oh, and since they are not private, it is really not that easy to just hop on and play a few holes like the old AGCC was. Lately, it’s hard to play without a tee time

I have hopped on both with about 2 hours notice the past week. I know it’s getting into the off-season for most, but I also have the option to play during the week.

Oakwing used to also offer reciprocal membership at University Club. Is that still the case?

Something that Links offers that Oakwing does not offer are loyalty points. Loyalty points can be converted to cart rentals or green fees. So if you wanted to have a guest and you have earned enough loyalty points, your guest can play for free.

I played both and even the course in marksville, and the lesser played Alexandria cc. Couldn’t you just play all 4 without a membership?

Pretty sure they are double on merch, so I have starting buying more things there like balls and gloves.

You definitely can, I am just starting to play often enough that it is starting to be financially beneficial to pick a place.

Is there a game Saturday morning? I've been out of the loop with travel and all those tournaments.

Both are good courses with Oakwing getting the nod on better layout, 19th hole and overall eye test. When LOB opened it had a great 19th hole, but it didn't last long and has been so so to hardly anything until recently. Seemed like they upped their game food wise. Oakwing has always had a solid 19th hole. I like Oakwing a little more because it's not a true links course but has some links style holes on it for sure. If I lived in Ellick, I wouldn't join either and play the three (Oakwing, LOTB and Tamahka).
