Back up for me now. Wouldn't surprise me if it was an internal issue. If someone had actually taken it down, we would have heard something by now.

Let me tell you about the idiots that are in charge of Azure. They love to run their patch train, except they have no idea what is on it and where it is at in the network.

Microsoft has pretty much gone "all in" with the Azure thing and they are going about it in a very nasty way.

With all the data centers they run now and various service lines, they tend to break stuff left and right. If you ever get access to the azure portal, you can see it has something broken daily. Usually with the phrase "Our engineers have identified the issue and are working to correct it." Then it will say next update will be 2 days from whatever day it is.

When they need to patch some server bugs or release some features, they send out the "patch train". Their words, not mine. Once that train leaves the station it is a mystery to where it is and who long it takes.

We had an issue where our code exploited some hole in theirs and shut down a farm. They had to emergency patch the bug, however they could not patch just our farm because it was in the magical world of the cloud. It had to go on the patch train, at which point it took 4 days to get to our farm. Even though we were the only ones impacted and offline. They could never give us a time on when it would arrive on our system.

So short version - if live goes down and it is not a DDOS, they have gone all DevOps and screwed something up. Microsoft is becoming Dev -> Prod, testing is not required

interesting.

seems like you and i are in very similar careers. i'm in server engineering/architecture for an oil/gas company. but currently my role is working more with VMWare on the virtualization front.

but yeah, who'd of thunk it huh? MS services running on MS Virtualized hosts having down time? lol

Sounds like most of the gaming industry is taking this patching mentality of send it straight from Dev to Production without any sort of testing.

Unfortunately for me, the company i work for doesn't feel this way. Analyst still get crucified for service outages.

This is what I was thinking. I thought it was another DDOS attack but nobody stepped up and claimed responsibility, and Microsoft didn't come out and say they were attacked, which they normally do. I think it was an internal frick up. Someone was fired today i bet
