XBOX Gamertag Situation

So I've been tracking a 'preferred gamertag' for a long time now... And it's been MONTHS and no change. (No gamerscore, no avatar, no emblems, etc.) I've sent messages to the tag with no reply.

So I contacted XBOX Support to inquire about forcing an "activity check" in that, if there is no usage/activity, then they release it and I can PAY to change the username.

I went 'round and 'round with the 'Gamertag Department' and they said that there was "No way that they could force a release" and I rebutted, "So what if I said I would be canceling my reoccurring subscription going forward if absolutely no concessions 'could' be made..." to which they replied, "I apologize, there's nothing I can do."

Does anyone else agree that it's fricking asinine to basically protect/side with a user/gamertag that is effectively inactive, and NOT paying for anything ongoing, versus a long-time (9+ years gold membership holder) and let me walk away?

I wasn't being unreasonable... If the person is using it actively, then I can wait my turn like a good little boy, but for frick's sake, there's no "use it or lose it" policy? I don't need them to "pay to play or leave"... that would be a terrible ultimatum and poor business model... but not saying something like, "OK, Sir, We'll put a flag on the account and if there's no activity in 3 months, we'll release it at which time you can pay to change your current tag to the desired tag for $XX"

fricking ridiculous.

eta: It was a situation of "won't", not "can't" and they continuously stood on "We can't" or "I can't"... I get they "YOU can't", get me to someone who "CAN" and ultimately will see how foolish you're being.

Also, I see how foolish/petty I'm being...
