After years in development, the Microsoft Studios exclusive "Scalebound" has been canceled.

Built by Platinum Games, Microsoft just confirmed to us that Scalebound's development has ceased and that the two companies have parted ways.

Scalebound was set to be an action RPG with 4-player co-op, where players formed bonds with gigantic, customizable dragons. Microsoft Studios has a pretty packed line-up for 2017 already, with State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2, and Crackdown 3 in the pipeline. However, Scalebound's closure will disappoint many, as it represented the only known "AAA" Action RPG experience in Microsoft's exclusive portfolio for the near future.

The statement we received from Microsoft reads as follows.

quote:

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for "Scalebound." We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including "Halo Wars 2," "Crackdown 3," "State of Decay 2," "Sea of Thieves" and other great experiences.

Platinum Games is such an overrated developer.

I mean, it sounded cool, but the lack of any info on the play systems involved, any kind of story, etc. was always a big warning.

It must have had a horrendous development if one of the few "exclusives" for the bone gets canceled.

Yep, will be interesting to see what they sell Scorpio on. Hopefully they have a nice E3 because the future looks bleak at this point unless you love Halo, Gears or Forza.

*Also this is another exclusive from E3 2014 to be cancelled or unreleased for Microsoft.

1. Fable Legends: Cancelled
2. Project Spark: Cancelled
3. Below: Unreleased
4. Phantom Dust: Cancelled
5. Crackdown: Unreleased
6. Scalebound: Cancelled

This is why I was always hesitant on buying an Xbox One.

Scorpio better knock it outta the park, but I don't really see it happening. Only games guaranteed to be 4k will be MS exclusives of which there seems to be less and less of these days. 3rd party devs will do what they have always done, code to the least common denominator which will be the regular PS4 and Xbox One S. The Scorpio, as touted by MS will be the last console made by MS, but not looking like it will be a happy ending.

Rumors going around now that Crackdown 3 may be the next MS exclusive to bite the dust. It is supposedly currently in development hell.

Should have passed on the One S and traded up my PS4 for the PS4 Pro and bought a Chronus Max so I could use Xbox controller on PS4. No sense in having both consoles and PC when one of the systems, if it keeps going the way it is, will only have 3 exclusive series worth even talking about; Halo, Forza, and Gears. Even those did not sell anywhere near what MS projected them to. This is compounded even further by the fact that moving forward all 1st party MS games will be coming out on PC as well.
