They didn't even send a copy for Microsoft to test, considering that 4J themselves have only been talking about the PS4 version it's safe to assume that it's coming after.

The PS4, Xbox One, and Vita had August launch windows. Minecraft was shown off at the Xbox E3 press conference last year.
There is no PS preference by 4J. They are all being developed along side of each other. They just happened to finish the PS4 version sooner. They are all gonna come out around the same time.

I hope it does, would rather play it on the One anyways. The 360 had the better community for the game last gen and I assume some of that carried over.

I'm just glad I don't have to say goodbye to all of my old maps. 
Plus the main Let's Players I watch do a weekly Minecraft video and I'm excited to seem them get a larger world to work with. Their 360 version is starting to show it's age.

100% wrong. PS4 version just failed testing and probably won't be out till later this year or early next. Xbox one however passed beta testing and could be out within the next couple of weeks to middle of September.

Look it up yourself. It's on ign. Ps4 failed and likely has to be redone vita and Xbox one they are just working out the bugs and should be out soon.

Get the 250 gig and don't be tempted by the current Gen consoles if its not what he's asking for.
The 360 has a much broader selection of games for a younger crowd and they will likely be discounted since they are older releases.
Enjoy the savings while you can as it will offer more games for his age group.

I saw the testing part, wanted to throw int he release date. PS4 release date seems to be any minute now

yup, Minecraft releases Friday for the Bone, no release date announced for PS4.
Although for about 2-3 weeks there it looked like the PS4 version would be released first. Not sure what the hell is going on over there at 4J. They fricked up the release of Minecraft on the new consoles.
Remember when they announced Minecraft would be a Day 1 download for the XBone, lulz.
And neither versions will have TU17 or cloud servers upon title launch
