What's a good router to get?

I have TWC's Extreme Internet package, and I get 37 down / 5 up / 26 ms ping average.
Lately I've had issues with rubber banding and lag spiking that no one can figure out. I'm fed up with it, and I'm probably just going to stop using this modem/router combo SBG6580.
Going to start over and get the SB6141, but have no idea what router to use...help?

I'm rarely on WiFi and everything in my house is pretty much hardwired. I've been out of the loop for years. Just using an ASUS AC-68U with Merlin's latest build.

Really depends on your needs -- size of airspace (strength of signal), number of users, etc.

My needs are about as straightforward as they come. Single user- me, the modem and router would be right on my computer's desk 4 ft from the cable outlet.
I live in an 830 sq ft apartment and all devices I'd use are in the living room space. PS3 and 360 are wifi for ESPN and Netflix.
