Just bought it on Xbox One. I'm aware it's been out for PC for a year now. I won't be able to play until I get home from work this afternoon, but how is it? I see there's coop and competitive multiplayer. How does that work, and is it any fun?

I forgot how I found Tropico 3 on Xbox 360 way back when, but I've been a fan of the series since. I played Tropico 3 and 4 and 360 and PC, but never got around to buying Tropico 5 for PC.

Very helpful guide

It's a fun sim game. They actually made a fairly significant change in how the game works with the "eras" you work through with world events and diplomatic relations. I believe there is MP, but I haven't dabbled with it on PC.

I've always loved how things change as the years roll by. Like the Middle East crisis. And how certain countries are starve for certain resources at certain times. Can't wait to go home and play. It's installing as we speak.

I'm assuming you played previous Tropico games.
How is it compared to Tropico 4?

I have only played Tropico 1. Always enjoyed it.

I actually found the soundtrack online and listen occasionally

Hahah. I played Tropico 4 my freshman year of college. I'd come home and play and eventually doze off. So I'd wake up and listen to the music for a good bit until I got enough motivation to pick myself up and get some homework done. So every song from Tropico 4 is forever engraved in my brain.

It's better than 4, but it's not a departure from series mechanics.

That's what I wanted to hear. Excited to go home and play. Hopefully some people from the GB have it for Xbone as well. Curious to see how multiplayer would work for this series.

Shouldn't you ask that BEFORE you buy it?

I knew I'd like it. I was just asking how it compares to previous titles.

I've been playing it. I'm loving it. I just don't like the new Penultimo. That's the only knock so far.

Oh, I love tropico5. Even spent 70 for all the useless DLC. I wish I had it for pc because I feel like it'd be easier. I love it but I really really suck at it. I don't know why but no matter what I do, I'm always coupes in late world war or earl Cold War.

Unemployment is a big problem for me generally, especially with sub high school types. I honestly stick with the OG farms because they employ so many people.

I love the new concept. I love starting in the colonial times. Really helps you establish your infrastructure... Along with setting up plantations, ranches, etc.
then when you advance to the next mission and eventually come back to the island, you're not starting from scratch everytime. I love that aspect. Tropico 4 was awesome, but I felt like it was too repetitive because you had to start from scratch every time you completed a mission. Some people might not be a fan of it, which I understand. I didn't get to play too much yesterday... In fact I'm probably going to start over because I just advanced to the World Wars. I got my shite pushed in off the bat by whoever invades you right at the start. Which I believe that's what's supposed to happen. I never focused on my military. Just a few guard towers and a fort. So when the world wars started, I added more plantations, mines, etc. and some industry... But I was focusing mainly on the military and trying to win the election... Which I can't seem to do even if I pass some edicts to benefit the people. I even tried rigging them and I still lost.
I think I won the election one time. And then I lost it the next year. Is there anyway to either delay elections or get rid of them without having a huge uprising?
I'm itching to play. Can't wait for 3:00 to roll around

Read up on building districts to maximize happiness. Like, rectangular city blocks with room for chapel/churches/groceries/entertainment/police in the middle. Though in the first era with country houses, you don't have to deal with food as they grow their own.

Will do. I can't wait for the weekend... Work's killing me.

I did some research while bored at work. If anyone is playing this game, you should read this. I'm considering starting over AGAIN

I started over yesterday and made more cash crop plantations than I originally did. I also focused more on my military. Once the first scenario gets to the World War era, it ends the game and sends you to the next island. But I paused the time right before the game ended. And built all my new buildings from the World War era and selected all the technologies to be researched. Also upgraded my forts and my palace so they'd have upgraded infantry. So when I unpaused, my city was covered with cranes

Then when I finished the second island, I came back to my first island. Got invaded right off the bat as I'm supposed to.... But I actually fought them off. Then when the time expired and they tried invading again, I fought them off in about 20 seconds
Excited for the Cold War era because of all the industrial buildings you unlock... Come on 3 o'clock...

This was this month's free game on PSN. I've always wanted to play a tropico game. I downloaded it, going to give it a go this weekend.

You won't be disappointed I promise. Look at my post above yours and read that link once you get the hang of the controls.

I suggest doing the tutorial first. It puts you straight into the game if you start campaign. I've played previous games so I wasn't too lost. But it took me a little while to get used to the controls. They changed a few things.

Tropico 4 was easy at the beginning because it told you what buildings to build when you started the game. This kinda just makes you figure it out on your own. Although, I do get a suggestion occasionally about what building to build.

Definitely turn your economy difficulty down. Especially if this is your first city building game. Being in debt is frustrating as hell on this game. You just sit there and wait for that little ship to come and pay you for your exports.

And don't forget about edicts. They can help you get re-elected and/or turn your economy around.

I'm not sure if this is a good strategy or not, but I've done it since Tropico 3... I always have ATLEAST 1 teamster building per dock. I'll occasionally build an extra one. But that's really only if I have 5 docks or more. You shouldn't build a second one until you get a challenge to do so.

Very very fun game. You can play it to kick back and relax. Or you can play it and challenge yourself. It's all how you want to play. Which is why I love these types of games. It's all about how you want to play.

I have this on the 360, but would love to get on the xbox one. The 360 is pretty much unplugged and sitting there, my 2 year old likes to turn it on and off no matter where it is, so I will probably pick it up soon.
