The further along I get, the more often I repeat encounters.
Edt: Some of the Checkpoints are a little BS. I turn the game off sometimes because replaying some parts feels like I shouldnt have to. The checkpoint should start and stop when enemies spawn in.

What is your preferred weapon?
Shotgun? I stay on the Plasma Rifle then always end up just doing short range shots with a shotgun because you need to stay on the move.

I like to combo the shockwave mod from the plasma rifle and then finish them off with the super shotgun. Also, the gauss cannon is OP as frick and will become your friend on ultra violence.

Its a good combo. I rarely use the rocket launcher if shtt spawns in the middle of stuff going doing. Kept inflecting damage on myself in close quarters. Sometimes I get disoriented where im at on the map/stage/level because you are always on the move from health pack to ammo pack.

Yeah, I tend to use the rocket launcher on enemies with aerial attacks, it's underwhelming against more powerful enemies.
DOOM is awesome. It's a great game that's not ashamed to be just that -- the best pure gaming experience I've had in years. It has a cool story, too, especially if you dig into it.

I use the plasma if it's too crowded.

What's the play time?
Also some of the secrets I'm missing. Are some of them in crazy platforming locations? Once I eliminate a threat I search and backtrack for hidden items but missing some.

I extend my playtime a lot because of searching for secrets. There is so much there if you choose.

Phantom Pain is 50 story missions, fwiw.
